Two of the first three wide receivers taken in the 2012 draft will be on display this weekend when the Titans travel to Jacksonville.

The Jaguars selected Justin Blackmon with the fifth overall selection and the Titans took Kendall Wright 20th. (Arizona took Michael Floyd with the 13th pick).

Up until this past weekend, it was the Titans who looked as if they had the best first-year receiver, as Wright leads all rookie receivers with 43 catches. He’s posted four touchdowns and 390 total yards, an average of 9.1 yards per catch.

Blackmon’s progress had been slower through the Jaguars’ first nine games, as he caught 26 passes for 250 yards and one touchdown.

But the former Oklahoma State star had a breakout performance last Sunday in the Jaguars’ 43-37 overtime loss to Houston. Blackmon caught seven passes for 236 yards and a touchdown, nearly doubling the yardage he’d produced in his first nine contests.

“He was winning one-on-one match-ups, which you need a number one guy to do,” Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne said. “I thought overall he was confident in his play and understood what he had to do, and he just came up to make some really big plays.”

Blackmon’s overall stats now look much different than they did previous to the Houston contest. He has 33 catches for 486 yards (a 14.7-yards per catch average) and two touchdowns.

Will the Titans see more of that Blackmon on Sunday, considering Henne will once again be playing quarterback? Blackmon may only now be hitting his stride after missing 11 days of training camp in a contract holdout.

“His preparation in the meetings and on the field – they’ve just gotten better and better each week, and that’s the fifth week in a row I’ve made mention of it,” Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey said. “He’s starting to get it. He’s starting to feel comfortable. He’s starting to understand the offense.

“You can tell by the way he practices. He’s practicing much faster. There was a lot of thinking going on early and some adjustments that are different from college. Some guys need time.”

    OMG

8 games of disappointment and 1 good game where the defense wiffed on more tackles than Griffin has in his career and now he is in his 'stride'. One game hardly makes it a trend.

My prediction? Less than 40 yards and no TDs from that bridge troll looking drunk.

More like, "Texans defense stops tackling in time for Blackmon."

I still don't see anything in him that warranted a top-ten pick, let alone trading up to get him. And what the hell is the safety doing on these post routes?! It's like they forgot what coverage they were running.

Blackman will most likely embarrass michael(i can't tackle a peewee) griffin.

Then again, embarrass? No, I don't think he gets embarrassed. I don't think he cares much. He'll prolly ask for blackmans autograph, kinda like clifford franklin.
