Jim Harbaugh shows up and a middle of the road team like the 49ers are a few plays away from the Superbowl. The Harbaughs are a coaching family and Harbaugh is a part of a coaching tree. Munchak is a part of the Fisher tree, which doesn't branch very much.. and there is a reason for that.

Munchak shows up and everything is the exact same then spirals downwards. We still can't be NE, still get blown out by the Chargers.... The defense looks more vanilla, the offense is still predictable and the running game is worse. We lose to teams we aren't supposed to beat and when we do beat teams, they are either bottom of the barrel, severely injured or we get incredibly lucky. The Lions win was luck, we were lucky the steelers had tons of injuries and the bills are ranked just like us.. the one point win could have went either way.

This FO should not be rewarded by resigning bad players to big contracts. That just sets us back more and more.

After so many years of Fisher mediocrity, and "almost but not quite"... we FINALLY move on. But what do we do? We hire a Fisher crony, who has never worked for anyone else, and never made it past position coach.

What are the results? They should not surprise anyone very much. 9-7... "almost but not quite". Now this season sitting at 3-5, relying on a 6-2 or better run to even have a shot at the playoffs. "Almost but not quite."

And people are falling for it all over again. Can't wait to hear what the excuse is when we suck again next year.

Just look at the facts. Fisher got an extension after an 8-8 season in 2009. I'm sure Munch can go 8-8 next year no problem.

 ugh, Rex Ryan is a clown show. All he cares about is beating the Patriots and smelling his wife's feet.

geebus you guys act like we were a surefire Superbowl Team this year. Freaking insanity.

I knew once we didn't get the possible NFL MVP this season that it was going to be a real stretch to make the postseason.

This is bad when I am the voice of reality.

Some people think we just have to give this coaching staff some time... In the mean while the 49ers make it to the Championship game with a new head coach, the Jets did the same thing a few year ago, rookie coach, rookie QB... The game has passed this staff by and if you can't see that, you are blind.

Finish strong? We aren't winning the next two games...We have a coin flip vs the Jags. Not beating the Texans and its a flip against the Colts again..

We might beat the Jets... Not beating the Pack... and its a flip against the Jags.

Lets say we win 1 of those 3 flips... 6-10... Which is what I predicted at the beginning of this season.

I don't understand how some people are just blind to what actually happens out there on the field. Guys who are over the hill don't get better. Coaches who haven't had any success in a legitimate previous coaching position aren't going to suddenly figure out the NFL. If you are coaching in the CFL or UFL, you are coaching there for a reason. Yet we bring them in and think we are going to compete for a Superbowl. Its a joke.

Everyone knows I'm no Fisher fan. But wouldn't you agree that at that point (2009), Fisher had a lot more credibility in the bank than Munchak does? He had taken us to 6 playoff appearances and one SB. There's a big difference between that situation and 3 consecutive seasons "hovering around .500" with no playoff appearances.

If Munchak gets an extension off an 8-8 season and zero career playoff appearances I am going to go berserk.

I'm not acting like that at all. So not real sure why you are quoting me with that comment. We are UNDERACHIEVING. We are getting MASSACRED by good teams. This team has taken a HUGE STEP BACK. Them's the facts.

Has absolutely nothing to do with Super Bowl expectations. Has everything to do with this organization heading the wrong direction.

Hold up. We're we all not praising Schwartz as one of the up-and-coming NFL coaches in the league just last season? There isn't many we can say are from the Fisher coaching tree, can we? We have Gregg Williams who didn't do well as a HC but was the DC for a Super Bowl winner.

Maybe your point should be there simply haven't been many head coaches come from that Fisher tree. But I don't think any coach is a clone of the coach he worked under. Look at the Belichick line of unsuccessful coaches.

Look, we're all frustrated with where the Titans are right now but you need to focus on the real reasons for our current situation and not look for a scapegoat.

Munch ended up with a much better record last season than Fisher did in '10. (6-10 vs. 9-7). He did this with a short offseason, new coordinators, new QB, no #1 WR and his "playmaker" anything but. Yeah, the schedule was weak but this is showing significant improvement over '10. NO ONE here saw the Titans making a playoff run last season regardless of who was coaching the team. Every so-called "expert" out there had the Titans finishing dead last in the AFC South.

No one is going to say the Titans have shown improvement so far this season but the team's #1 defensive player and captain has been out, the #1 WR out, the best QB on the team out and a brutal schedule. We are a very young team on defense with limited talent and experience.

Which coach out there do you think makes this team 5-3 right now? There are THREE teams right now in the AFC with that record or better and two beat the Titans. Only seven have winning records. The same conversations we are having about an underachieving coaching staff is happening for a lot of teams.

That's why we play 16 games. The cream will rise to the top. I don't expect the Titans to be among them but it has a lot less to do with coaching than it does the youth, skill and experience of the players on the field.

If you ask me based on his ability midway through his contact, I say Munch has done an average job. To decide whether or not he's the man for the future is how the next eight games unfold. Unless the wheels fall off and the Titans end up 5-11 or worse, I think he's here for his final season if he's willing to bring in a new DC and, possibly, an OC.
