It's okay to wish for more from your head coach but, in reality, replacing him now would be insane. A change at DC is much more realistic but no guarantee of improvement since it's too late to put in a new defense. It would have to be a hire from within which mean another underachieving coach replacing another.

Like it or not, the smartest thing is to let the rest of the season play out and then evaluate.

My decision on disapproval is just based upon him keeping Grey at the end of the season. If he got rid of Grey, I would not mind at all if Munch came back.

Who would you have hired in mid February?

The Steelers are a totally different team when Troy Polumalu is out.

Bradshaw/Benson/Foster/Gore and many more have no problem running it.

    Or fans just being realistic.

Who you going to replace Munch with right now? One of the coordinators who have both been criticized here all season? How about a position coach? Lowry might the only coach from a position that has played well most of the season.

Let the season play out so we have two full seasons to evaluate whether the Titans need to replace one or both coordinators or clean house.

you may call it excuses... but these are pretty good facts... the thing is, you're going off pure bias.. you have no middle ground or partiality and just don't like munch... fair enough, but if you're going to call them excuses, we'll just call your facts pure hate (so stop drinking the hateraid)

his coordinators are basically the problem.. especially grey.. but like most said, what can you do when you're down to your third choice... coach both OC and DC?
and he pretty much had to keep them for this year... it's part of the job.. heck it's part of any job... if someone a bit more better was available, you just dont cut ties with what you have just to try and get them.. because you might not even get them and plus you're throwing the current employees under the bus.. same with any company... if there's someone better, you won't immediately cut the employees you have....

and as for mediocracy... it's expected.... we have the 4th lowest payroll... and bud adams... if you want a team with a high payroll... root for the lions

I never said I want Munch replaced right now. I realize there's no point in that. I just want him gone at the end of the season.

That said, if he fires Gray I'll throw him some rope. If he fires both coordinators I'd be ecstatic. I'd still believe he is a sub-par head coach. But I'd at least be interested to see how he does with the new staff. Unfortunately, that would probably just buy him a whole new set of excuses as they were "implementing brand new systems".

Also, I'm not sure he could even get top-notch coordinators here on one year deals.

I've went over this before. I don't think they looked very hard. I think they knew they were going in-house all along. They interviewed Munch, a guy dying of cancer, a Rooney Rule satisfier, and a proven failure. You call that a thorough head coaching search? You seriously think Munch was the best available option? It'd clear by looking at those candidates that this was Munch's job all along.

That's not what I said. I said losing one player, aside from a franchise QB, shouldn't DESTROY a season. Losing a player like Polamalu hurts big time. But it doesn't single-handedly destroy the Steelers season.

True. But I'd say those are completely different types of backs than CJ. If we had one of those guys you mentioned our run game wouldn't have been quite so putrid at the beginning of the season.

If you want to call this team taking a HUGE step back "bias" and "pure hate", go ahead. If you want to call 5 losses by a combined 102 points "bias" and "pure hate", go ahead. If you want to call criticizing a HC for having 10 guys on the field for two key plays in an OT loss "bias" and "pure hate", go ahead.

Bottom line is I am looking at facts. And that's what I'm basing my opinion on. The supporters are the ones going "But but but if he had been hired earlier he COULD have done better." That is speculation at its finest.

This is a fair point. But for how long is that an excuse? At the end of the day these are the guys he chose. These are the guys he hired. Sorry, I just cannot buy that they were the best available coaches in all the land. Gray makes Cecil look like Rex Ryan.

Point is, at some point you just have to look at the product. So we give Munch a pass the first two years for his bad coordinators. Say he fires them and gets new coordinators for 2013. Do we then give another pass because it's "their first year implementing new systems". Then do we re-up Munch to give them a "fair shot". At some point, you have to stop with the excuses and judge the product on the field, which sucks. You can always find an excuse if you want to.

Nice try with all these veiled "bad fan" type comments. But if you think our payroll is any way, shape, or form what I'm complaining about then you simply haven't been paying attention.

If Munchak finishes 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 or better there's really no reason to believe he'll be gone after 2013. Fisher was head coach forever and even received an extension following the 2009 season after starting 0-6 and finishing 8-8.

All Munchak has to do is hover around .500 and he's staying. He'll be able to convince future coordinators they'll have a chance to be around beyond 2013.

Regardless of how the rest of the season plays out?

He had to settle for his coordinators. Everyone knows that. He had to get someone in place well after every other team had made their hires and there were few options. Sure, he could have stretched the process out until after the draft but he needed the input of his coordinators on their schemes so they can address some of those in free agency and the draft.

If the Titans end up with 6-7 wins, I suspect we'll see new coordinators though Munch will be kept. I think we'd need to see a 5 or less win season for Munch to be fired.

You can't. You promote a position coach, call it "interim" and start the hunt as soon as the season ends.
