Titans coach Mike Munchak listed a few reasons for Chris Johnson’s rushing surge during the past month.

Johnson has gained more than 90 yards in three of his past four games, capped by his 195-yard outing in Sunday’s win over Buffalo – the third-best performance of his career.

Munchak said better blocking, more competitive games and good play-calling have all factored into Johnson’s improvement.

“Everyone takes the blame, everyone should get the credit. Because it’s not just one thing,” Munchak said. “I thought (offensive coordinator Chris Palmer) did a great job yesterday of changing it up when we were calling the runs. And we stuck with it.”

It helped that the game was close, as opposed to the Titans needing to rally from multiple scores down, as has often been the case this year.

“You have more opportunity to call the run game, mix the run game rather than just be passing every down,” Munchak said. “I think that’s helped quite a bit, and because of that the (running) lanes are not as predictable. When you’re in games like that, close games, it’s a lot harder for the defense to figure out what you’re doing versus the alternative.”

Munchak said it’s amazing how quickly impressions change in a matter of a few weeks.

“I think it’s all things working well together and then I think confidence grows, the blocking gets better, the running back is all of a sudden better,” Munchak said. “And then all of a sudden two weeks later it’s, `Hey, the offensive line must not be as bad as we all thought. The running back, maybe he does have a couple years left.’”

CJ is now 10th in the league in rushing and averaging 4.5 yards per carry. Can't complain about that. All we need is the consistency (which seems to have come back).

It's unbelievable CJ Spiller averages 7.5 yards per carry.

I really think Palmer has turned around. Which is why you NEVER let go of coaches during the season. Grey makes it hard, but I believe it is the truth.

Outside of him not putting Cook in enough, I feel he has been doing a good job with the offense in recent weeks.

I'd love to see this consistency continue, it was nice to see a little CJ of old. The Colts don't have anything special on D do they? I'd be shocked to see 4 good games in a row from CJ, but it's more than welcome :banjump:

I wonder how much of it has to do with Hass reading the defense and making the right line calls

if that has anything to do with it in the first place but the line has looked a lot better

    Good point.

I think Gray will get it together. Lots of times he's had people in position but we just haven't made plays. I think the reason why our corners play so far back is because he doesn't have a lot of faith in our safeties. I think he'll get it figured out soon.

Our defense wasn't completely terrible against the Pats, Texans, and Steelers.
