A lot of average football going on now.

We'll have a much better picture of where we stand after week 8. If we can beat BUF and IND we're sitting at 4-4 and you can say we have a legitimate shot.

But I'm still firmly in the camp that says we are pretty far from being a good football team. And I just can't see 6+ more wins over the remainder of the season. Hope I'm wrong though.

My buddies and I have been saying this all year. This season seems to be the 1 out of every 7 or 8 years where all of the "good" teams don't play well, and a bunch of "average" teams look strong. Pats, packers, ravens injuries, steelers, all nothing special this year. Seahawks, Rams, vikings, etc doing well this year. It's just a cluster****, 2-4 is to be expected with the tough schedule we had to start the season, but now things should get interesting.

im sure you thought the same thing the year we were 0 and 6 in 2009 then went 8-2 rest of the way.

    turnaroudns in season can happen

Yeah and we still missed the playoffs. I don't doubt a big turnaround can happen. I just don't think it's very likely with this particular team/staff. In '09 I didn't feel we were nearly as bad as our record indicated. This season, I feel we are every bit as bad as our record indicates. And if I'm being honest, maybe worse. The Lions game was one of the flukiest/craziest games I've ever witnessed. And the Steelers were completely ravaged by injuries and it still took a last second FG in our house to get the win.

Now, a win's a win. But IMO there is something to be said about the way in which you win. And right now I'm looking at 4 blowout losses/massacres and 2 weak victories. I'd just like to see us beat a team soundly before talking turnaround/playoffs.

Sure if you just want to look at our week 6 performance and project from there, then you can say anything is possible. But when you take everything from the first 6 weeks into account, I just don't see how anyone can really say this a good football team that has a legit shot at the playoffs.

Again, I HOPE I'm wrong. And I'm not trying to be pessimistic. I just don't have blinders dark enough to convince myself this team is primed for an epic turnaround.

Does 9-7 earn a playoff spot in the AFC? How about 8-8....

    We could easily be 9-7

Ws vs Indy x2, Jax x2, Buf, NYJ, & Miami - puts us at 9-7
    (losses v. Hou, GB, CHI).

Although, with this terrible defense... we'll likely be 5-11.

See I don't think we are quite as bad as our losses indicate. I think some games kinda snowballed out of control on us.

Texans put up 38 pts on us. 14 points came from MH int returns. So the D really only allowed 24 points. (MH also fumbled the ball and gave them a possession in the RZ which they scored on so that isn't entirely on the D either). If MH doesn't play like KFC that game, then it is probably a close game. Not saying we win, but it is close.

And I think similar things can be said about some of the other games. We had some bad/stupid penalties and turnovers at some of the WORST times in 4 of the first 5 games. Those really let the other teams run the scores up. We are still a young team that is learning, those mistakes will happen, but if we eliminate those (like against the Steelers), then we compete in all or most of the games this year. Combine those mistakes with the fact that we played some tough teams and have been banged up ourselves (KB, Locker, McCarthy, Marks etc.)

Again, I'm not saying that we are better than our record, because I don't believe we are that this point. But I do think we are better than the point differential indicates. We can get back on track.
