Anyone who watched this game with the SOUND On got a pretty good breakdown of CJ and the OL by the commentators on multiple occasions. CJ continued to make poor choices and show a skewed sense of direction on the field but due to a dose of improved blocking he was able to get decent numbers.
The commentators were dead on in regard to his tendency to whiff whilst trying to hit a home run as well as miss developing lanes. CJ better well thank his OL for 90y last night.
CJ of 08 would have had 220y in this game...

And most importantly, the trend of getting 6 or 7 on 1st and manageable 3rds is what won the game in the end. As the commentators pointed out again, this is what CJ should be shooting for in every game rather than contuniously whiffing whilst shooting for ever-elusive highlight footage..

Yeah. But it's fair to say that he has sucked so far in 2/3rds of our games. Which just ain't gonna cut it. Or at least it shouldn't.
I agree that's his biggest issue as well. His CJ2K days are long gone. But when he's not playing scared and/or dilly-dallying in the backfield he can still be a very capable back.

I was really hoping CJ was turning a corner the first part of the game... Then I saw him get tackled by a guy on the ground with 5 yards between them... That was deflating.

My problem with CJ has been that I don't think he is worth his money... I don't think he is a bad player, but I do think that if you expect play maker money, you need to make plays, and not just hitting open holes, but finding open holes where nobody saw them, or breaking tackles. CJ hasn't shown me anything in terms of his 'playmaker' abilities this year, and that's unfortunate for all of us. I'd love for him to be worth every penny. At this point in the season he's not worth it. Does some of the blame fall on the OC, Line, etc? Of course, but when you get paid that much, and you are the teams star rushing back, you really need to man up and own it. The fact he doesn't means to me that this is a job for him. He's not a winner, he's a guy getting a paycheck. He, if he starts earning it, maybe that will be enough.

To put it another way, CJ is still trying to get used to being a fast speed back, and not the most explosive back that ever played the game like he once was imo. Sorta like Hass is slowly coming to the realization that his arm strength is nowhere near what it was a few years ago. By doing so, Hass seems to not be forcing the ball into spots he doesn't have the arm strength to hit in time. CJ just needs to keep focusing on getting what he can on every play. Don't get me wrong, CJ shouldn't be trying to run over unblocked MLB's cuz he'll just get jacked up and hurt, but he was taking what was there last night more often than not. Hoepfully, he'll keep trending in that direction. I think many of you guys would be surprised to see how fast he can still run if he gets behind the defense. He just needs to be patient. It will come.

That was SO bad. How do you get tackled by a guy on the ground with all that space to the left side? Even the announcers had to laugh at that.

But at least that was really the only "WTF CJ?!?!" moment of the game. Baby steps.

CJ is freaking terrible, he's a joke, and I can't wait to dump him so we can get a real RB back there.

I mean not only does he look completely lost out there, but he can't make anyone miss to save his life, he even gets tackled by guys laying on the ground.

He did play better. and I'll never hate without reason. That little catch from him that he took awhile was a nice play. He had a part in the win. He still is not what he used to be, but he played better. Getting tackled by Harrison (who was on the ground) was embarassing. I don't think lack of speed is the issue. not being elusive to tacklers is the issue.

But he wasn't horrible at all.
