Titans coach Mike Munchak said he isn’t about to over-analyze his team’s woeful rushing performance based on one game. But he did acknowledge that there were at least a few issues that led to the Titans running 16 times for 20 yards, a total that included the worst day of Chris Johnson’s career: 11 carries for four yards.

One problem, Munchak said, was that Johnson – even on some of his positive runs in the early going — was looking too much for the home run.

“I think early he was again, looking for a bigger run than was there instead of taking the four or five (yards) that are there, the cutback, and the big one may come later if you get more touches,” Munchak said. “I’m sure he thought he was going to get a lot more than (11) carries in the game yesterday. But he didn’t.”

A second issue was that second-year quarterback Jake Locker made some incorrect reads at the line of scrimmage – when he had the option of calling a run or pass play.

“There were some plays when we had (the option to run or pass) and we handed some runs off that weren’t great looks for (Johnson),” Munchak said. “With some of the disguises some of their defense was doing, we ran into some looks that weren’t optimal run looks. So we got one-yard gains and no-yard gains on some of those.”

Munchak said he had no plans to bench Johnson or spread the wealth with some of the team’s other backs.

“I think we’ll roll with who we have,” Munchak said. “C.J. caught six balls yesterday. He did a good job there. He’s still a big weapon there. Whenever he gets the ball, run or pass, he gets a chance to make plays.

“We all know the running game has to be better. We’re not denying that. We’re not acting like, `Hey, we’re okay.’ We’re not.”

But Munchak isn’t ready to make sweeping statements about the run game after one loss.

“To me,” he said, “we need to have a few more weeks in to the first quarter of the season to see really where we are in that phase.”

LOL Same could be said for literally any player with the ball in his hands. Munch learned from the best when it comes to saying a bunch without really saying anything.

He says we'll know where we really stand with the run game a quarter into the season. I'm going to remember that. If week 4 comes and goes and we're still pathetic I'll be very much looking forward to him making some changes. Be it players or coaches or both.

Exactly. I was able to buy the "just give it time... we need to gel" excuses last year. With the lockout and new coaching staff and all. But this season those same excuses carry no weight. At some point, Munch is going to have to start calling people out AND they need to be losing their jobs. If that doesn't happen then Munch just needs to take the ultimate blame and admit he's been a failure.

Unfortunately with things like the line, losing thier jobs during the season could make us worse all around.

But if things stay this way and there isn't a fire sale in the middle lineman, I will even jump on the get rid of Munch bandwagon (and I like him as the coach.)

Our defense failing to stop CJ and four bad defenses letting him look mediocre thus making him our "star running back"?

"Guys, in camp today, whoa, CJ totally caused Griffin to miss this tackle, he's totally back to form now."
