There's really no such thing as a "shut-down" corner nowadays. There's some really great man corners like Revis and Asomugha, but even Champ Bailey can't be a "shut-down" corner with the rule changes the past 4 years.

I can't really think of many CB's who can lock down on a No.1 WR like Fitzgerald or Johnson and completely take them out of the equation. Finnegan certainly can't take those guys out of a game, so to me he isn't a shut-down CB. He's maybe a top 10 CB though.

And there's no way we're better without him, how does that work LOL? We lost a talented player. You don't get better by losing a good player, you get worse.

The question for us is how much worse are we now without him? I say just a hair worse. J-Mac and Verner are a solid 1-2 combo at CB. And if Griffin mans up, we're fine without Finnegan.

Well when you look at our CB group then and now we basically replaced Finnegan with a 4th round rookie. So I'm not sure how anyone could say we are a better team without Finnegan.

That said I'm not all that upset he's gone. He wasn't worth his asking price IMO. We reportedly offered him a very fair deal before last season and he responded by storming out of camp like a baby. Then he publicly lied about it. I really lost a lot of respect for him after that.

I always felt he was a bit overrated to be honest. But it's hard not to like his fire. Even though there were definitely times when it pissed me off. Unlike say a Keith Bulluck or Jevon Kearse, I won't necessarily be rooting for Finnegan in his post-Titan career. And I imagine I will downright hate the guy when he's lined up opposite a Titan WR.

I honestly thought we should have let Griffin walk and let Finnegan play safety. He would probably be the smallest safety in the league, but tackling has never been a problem for him (I'm looking at you Griffin), plus he played his college ball at safety. So he does have some experience at the position. I feel like Finnegan earned that deal more than Griffin earned his.

I have the highest faith in verner taking over the role. I also believe finnegan was overrated.
But at this point it's premature to say that we'll be better off getting rid of an above average corner. Who knows though, could be. But I would by no means say we're guaranteed better off.

Verner earned his shot. He is not someone you want on the bench for any amount of time.

Verner is smart and adjusts quickly to how QBs play. Excited about that guy.

The original question doesn't take into consideration the money that Finny was asking for. It only asks if we're better off without him. So to answer that question, No, we're not better off without him because he was a talented player.

BUT, there is no way he is worth the $10 millon per year he was asking for. That's more than Revis is scheduled to make this season. So taking all things into consideration, I am still glad we let him walk.

Well, of course we would be better with him this season.

However, I do expect our team to be better with the additions we made.
