Running the option with VY had a lot to do with that. Too bad that's not sustainable and I'd be pissed if we did it with Locker.

And again, that's one season. Explain his rookie year when he played 15 games with Kerry Collins. He averaged over 5.0 YPC six times that season(including the playoffs). CJ averaged over 5.0 six times with VY in 2009.

A lot of it depends on if your offense is run centric or not. With a mobile or deep threat QB, defenses are going to tend to play on their heels. With an immobile dink and dunk QB, defenses are going to be on their toes and crowding the box more often.

But to be honest, his performance really doesn't have the implications it used to. CJ is just a part of our offense now. He is no longer our entire offense and our only weapon. For me, I'm looking for him to put the same effort out that he used too. I got tired of watching him dog it last year. Maybe with Locker starting this year CJ won't have as much pressure on him and he will produce.

this is a fair post, only thing i can really say to counter it is if your running game is working you can open up the passing game. hard to air it our when you cant run.

True, but that's not the case when your team has an elite QB. Which is where I would like us to be.

No one ever said that but is it not a nice perk to have?

I noticed the post popeyedrook13 referenced only used the yards to show that a mobile QB affects CJ's production and not the number of carries he got with the different QBs.

Before VY in 2009: 15.83 carries per game

    With VY in 2009: 26.3

It's pretty reasonable to think that with 10 more carries per game CJ would gain 52 more yards when he averages 5.6 YPC for the season, right?

Additionally, with Collins CJ's average was 6.27 and with VY his average was 5.36.

Once again, the argument that a mobile QB helps CJ significantly enough to waiver the decision is crap. Anyone going to argue this now?

Do you know why he was getting those extra carries? Because the chains were moving. He was picking up first downs again because the defense couldn't stack the box against a mobile qb.
