I agree. I think its time to move to a club system of minor league football. Then those teams that are profitable live, and those that aren't don't.

Look at our own local MTSU. There's no way that POS football program makes money, yet they keep building facilites, all the while slashing academic budgets and programs and raising tuition.

Bingo. It is the evolution of the where we are headed. The NFL is neck deep in this also. The mandatory period (2 years?) of playing CFB is beyond absurd. That should be the first thing to go.

And this is the point you lose all credibility.

By all means do clarify. Slavery is a bit strong but indentured servitude is in incredibly accurate.

"Indentured servitude refers to the historical practice of contracting to work for a fixed period of time, typically three to seven years, in exchange for transportation, food, clothing, lodging and other necessities during the term of indenture."

Again, show me who makes this kids commit to the NCAA, who makes students go to the games, and who makes you sit down and watch the games?

    No one.

I can still say it is a form of slavery to a certain extent... You don't need chains to keep slaves on a plantation when you have group-thinking and a velvet rope mentality.

Playing CFB is sold as an honor right? It is an honor to play for this institution, community, state, whatever. It is easy to say the athletes have a choice when it is the only game in town. How dare the student athletes request compensation for the billions that are made around the NCAA off the backs of these amateur athletes. They have this great honor of attending the university and receiving an education that they otherwise might not have been able to get if it was not for their unique athletic talents. Never mind that many are not educationally prepared to succeed at the university level but yet they somehow get the scores and grades necessary to keep advancing.
Where else in society are people (kids) restricted from capitalizing financially off if their talents? A musically gifted teenager can sign a record deal and make millions before they can legally drive a car. Outside of football and basketball, where else in athletics are you "made" to attend a university before you can make money professionally on your talents? I'll even give CFB a +1 because the system than collegiate basketball runs under is absolutely evil. From the junior high level to college basketball it is awful. Now I understand these rules come down from the NFL and NBA not the NCAA. The two leagues are just as dirty and up to their necks in this mutually beneficial system.
Slavery is a bit strong as the system is somewhat mutually beneficial. Indentured servitude seems accurate.

Oh no, I agree, it does to an extent.

But to say that is anything NEAR slavery which TONS of you anti college football use makes everyone ignore your argument.

While I don't really agree with the rule, no NFL team is going to draft a kid right out of high school without a farm system in place.
