Ever just woke up one day and said this industry is not for me? And moved on to something completely different?

I'm at that stage now. I am so sick of I.T (or at least the current roles I have been doing) and the crap you get from people who have no idea how a computer works but expect me to snap my fingers and fix what ever their problem is.
Since I got my Scuba Diving license I have been interested in the ocean and would love to study it. Having no real education in that field I found a job with the Navy doing Hydrographic Surveying which sounded pretty interesting (and a non-combat role) so I've applied and fingers crossed I get into it.

In the middle of it right now.

Last several years I have spent in aviation. Got half way through school, laid off from my job. Decided after that, my window had pretty much closed and all in all, unless you are a big wig, no matter what position you are in is very under paid. I had to deal with pilots everyday, and I can say very little positive about their attitudes and am very great full I will never have to deal with them again.

So, I have decided to go to school for sociology and after I get my degree I am thinking about going into law enforcement. I figure with my back ground I can get in pretty easily, but I really want to get into SWAT or secret squirrel type stuff.

    Good luck with that.
I know it's not easy making change but sometimes you just get fed up with the crap that goes on you just want out.

Yea I never should have tried to make it a career in the first place. Just dabbled with it as a hobby. Last thing I learned about myself is not to get TOO serious with things I enjoy because I get burnt out after a few years.

I will probably feel the same about law enforcement, after dealing with several people with "bad attitudes" but I would really like to put myself in a position to help people. That and I like change of pace/unexpectedness which I am sure SWAT would offer.

I am still looking into in it. As with anything these days, I am keeping an eye on job security, and this seems to be doing okay in the parts of Tennessee.

    LOL.

I was a postman for 20 years and gave it up for a career in IT!!

In my 3rd role now. User support does drive you insane after a while. User support is like groundhog day.

I kept studying to improve and landed a job as a Network Engineer a couple of months ago which meant I no longer had to support users.Have to say it's heavenly.

I worked hard for years and slowly was killing me. I had severe interests in gaming. In every respect. I wanted to collect and have my own site and travel to Japan and many other things. I woke up one day went to work and realized I physically feel to sick to work like this anymore. I quit. Later found out I'm disabled for life.

However turned out the best thing to ever happen to me. I'm happy now. Got a great new place. Met new friends. Got my collecting going. Working on my gaming Youtube channel. Working my way up to have a great channel. So far nothing great yet. Mainky music unboxings and documentaries from G4 Icons.
Now saving up for my lifelong dream of going to Japan and working on my website. (far from finished so not up yet) This is a career I love. Sure by technical standards I am not being paid but it pays me in many things I worked hard to get the money for what I wanted.

Changing careers takes guts. I've been in the same job since 1993. I have flirted with the idea of doing something different many times, but that paycheck keeps luring me back.

Took me 1½ years to find out the university (and electronics engineer) was not my call. It was kinda tough to admit to mostly yourself that what you've dreamed of being when you "grew up" wasn't what you thought. - But best decision I ever made.

I move to IT, so it's not a complete 180 turnaround.

My advice to anyone who doesn't HAVE to do what they're doing, don't.

I mean if you have a mortgage and a family you need to put that ahead of your feelings, but if it's just you, do what ever you want to be happy.
