Who the best football player is when we draft & 20? Luke Kuechly is one of the best players in this draft. An incredible career in the ACC he is a pure linebacker not a DE-OLB. His strengths are his ability to read and react and he is damn good in coverage.

His biggest weakness might be in engaging blocker but as a Will backer that won't be a problem.

If you think he is not suitable as an athlete to play the weak side think again. His 40 time, cone and shuttle were all better than Manning who is supposed to be a top will prospect.

Manning ran a 4.79 40 he ran a 4.58. His vertical was outstanding for any linebacker prospect at 38''.

He is smart, he is great a filling the cut back lanes and he is more than respectful in coverage. In our 5-2 type look he would be ideal.

Putting the athletic issue to rest.

Kuechly was in the top 5 in the following workout categories at the combine among linebackers.

    40
    cone
    20 yard shuttle
    Vertical
    Broad jump
    60 yard shuttle

The only workout he finished below 5th was bench press and he lifted 27 times hardly weak for a 245 lb guy.

I'm not sure what more you can ask for in terms of combination athlete, player and character. What more can you ask?

191 tackles last year at BC.

Best player in the draft after Luck and RG3! If he falls to us we have to take him right?

IF he is available and we don't take him, I'd be upset.

Historically drafting Lbers in the 1st round comes with a very low bust rate. You also get instant playing time because at a minimum they can be solid coverage guys on STs.

I think the FO is going to have a tough decision between drafting a DE that is high risk for busting vs. taking a solid 5yr starter at a lower risk position like C, LB or DT.

I can't imagine him getting past the Seahawks (star ILB), Eagles (star ILB), and Bears (play OLB, eventual Urlacher replacement).

I'd be happy with draft Kuechly is he's available at #20. Move him to OLB and Ayers - McCarthy - Kuechly would be dominating for years. Follow up with a 2nd round DE and a 3rd round DT to solidfy our DL... and we'd have a solid young front 7 for years.

We already have this guy, his name is Colin McCarthy.

I don't think we can afford to draft a LB this year. We need help in the trenches. And Witherspoon is still playing at a high level.

And we saw with Tulluch, millions of tackles don't make you great.
