I'm going to play devil's advocate here and make an argument for this guy to be the pick.

This is what we have now...

Kenny Britt- Injury and law issues. He's a big question mark going forward and can't be depended on. Great talent and imo in the top 10 when he's on the field but that's just the problem, he's never on the field.

Nate Washington- He became one of my favorite players last year but let's not forget how he played before last season. Will the drops come back? He's getting up there in age when will the drop off start? Was last year his peak?

Damian Williams- I really like the guy but he'll never be more than a solid #2 WR. Showed flashes last year but was a bit too inconsistent.

Lavelle Hawkins- How did he get a contract but Avery didn't?

    Marc Mariani- Nope

So big picture we may not have a future #1 WR if Britt doesn't get it together. We have a solid player in Washington but only for a couple more years at most. D-Will is a good WR that can turn into a starter but I don't want him to be the only bright spot for the future and Locker is going to need more weapons.

If it's draft day and there is a run on DE's right before our pick (very possible) we'll be stuck with reaching for someone we might not want. Outside the DL some positions of need are CB, S, C, OLB, and WR. CB is a pretty deep class especially in round 2-3, Safety is weak outside of Barron, there are a few solid Centers who aren't that much worse than Konz in rounds 2-4, OLB is a need but not an immediate one maybe if Luechly or Hightower were in play. That leaves us with WR....

This guy is going to suck. Before his 40, no one knew who he was.

I expect the Texans to take him - if he falls. He's worth a 3rd round pick, but his 40 time has propelled him into the late first round.

Really? I kind of like the guy. Yeah his 40 time gave him a bump but he has the size if adds on a bit (which he will) and comes from a program that has put out some serious NFL talent at the position.

no thanks. I knew who he was before his 40 but I've seen him drop some of the easiest passes in crucial parts of the game.

Floyd, Wright, and even Jeffrey would be better picks at 20 IMO. This guy is far down my list...

I would love another target, but we must find a center and another DE before we worry about WR. Next year a WR early makes sense, and hopefully a safety 1st round.

The only reason we should take a WR in the 1st is if by some miracle all the teams forget that Blackmon exists and he falls to #20 ... Which won't happen in a million years.

We just have other, more pressing needs. DT, C, DE are the big 3 to me. I feel like WR is something you take in the 1st when the rest of your team is already in place. You cant build a team around a good WR. They can help out tremendously, but Oline and Dline (and QB) need to be what the team is built around.

Plus, while I agree with your assessment of the WRs, there is also the chance that KB does stay healthy and we have one of the best WR corps in the NFL with the guys already on the roster. Not saying its gonna happen, but it is a possibility. However there is no chance in hell that we could have one of the top OLs or DLs in the NFL with what we currently have on the roster.

WR's are always a dime a dozen in FA...even though Tennessee is where they go to die.

This guy really is the true wildcard of the draft. Freakish athlete that destroyed the combine but had little College production.

Too bad he played in and option offense, apparently this was why he produced squat, but I don't watch College Football so I couldn't say for sure.

I could see the Titans falling in love with a player like this, and if they think he's the BPA they they'll take him.

At the end of the day I could see him going to the Patriots at the end of the first round, but you never know.

This is what scares me. I think the combine is WAY overated. What a player puts on tape should be about 95% of what you look at when evaluating them. The combine should be just to get a little closer look at the players, get to know them a little, make sure you know what your getting and be used in a "tie breaker" scenario if the FO has 2 players rated close to each other. I should never be used to make a decision on whether or not to draft a player in the 1st round.

Just because a player is a "freakish" athlete does not mean that he will be a good NFL player. IMO, if a player is such a good athlete then it will show on tape when he plays against lesser competition. If not, then he probably just isn't a football player. If he couldn't use his athleticism in college, then what makes you think he will be able to use it against MUCH better competition in the NFL. I would much rather have a "football player" than a "freakish athlete".

Now there are always going to be exceptions, ie players that didn't really set the world on fire in college, but become great pro athletes, and vice versa But more often than not, the guys that are good "football players" in college make better NFL players.
