how about getting Osi and spending the $$ on someone like Nicks or Grubbs to anchor the OL. or investing in a WR like Bowe or Vincent Jackson to Put our passing game in a league with the best

    just something to think about.....

Why? Its not "anyone", it's Mario Williams.
Is Mario not the perfect candidate for this? We have no money invested in the defense and a ton of cap space. Our defense is getting better, and a top DE could take this team to the promise land.

I would pay him whatever he needs

I see what you're saying but if we were to pay him whatever he needs to sign with us but what if he were to get hurt again? We'd be screwed and in worse shape than we are now.

I get the feeling he's gonna go where the money is and I just don't think our FO is gonna be the ones to show it to him.

You can't worry about a potential injury for a player. There's no point.

Mario has only missed 14 games in 6 seasons and 11 of those were in one season.

    Yeah, last season.

You have no clue how is going to come back after that, that's the major problem.

We'd be able to get a little money back on Osi by being able to make his jerseys sleeveless.

i wouldnt make him the highest paid player in the league but i would not hesitate to give mario a deal of 5 year 60 million dollar contract with 25 or so of that up front...and that would average of like around a 9 mil average but you could front load it or back load it....not sure if he would go for that but that might be a decent type contract for a player that if he comes back healthy can be an animal....and for those who are worried about him coming back healthy...just put an incentive on the first year if that is possible...

then we could keep our second and still be able to spend some money on depth players in FA and the draft...

edit:if not 60 mil as i think it seems kinda low for a play like him and the deal i see him getting but 12 mil isnt that bad i could see it being around 14 or 15 when its all said and done...

I'd have to pass on Osi.

He'll be 31 & wants a new contract. We'll end up forking out some money, and he'll only be a force for maybe a few more years. I wouldn't want to give up a 2nd for a 2-3 year rental.

And Williams would not hesitate to laugh in your face. Charles Johnson signed a six-year, $76 million contract last July. Williams will get more than that.

I think it's quite possible that Williams will shoot for a deal similar to the seven-year, $100 million ($41 million guaranteed) that Albert Haynesworth got in 2009.

It's not very often that a former number one overall draft pick, who's still just 27 years old, hits the market. He's been to the Pro Bowl twice and has 53 sacks in basically 5 seasons of playing time. When has there been a free agent on the defensive side as attractive as this?

Guys, Williams is going to get a gigantic contract. There will be no bargain here and it's insane to talk about stuff like that. There will only be giving him the biggest contract a defensive player has ever received.
