Special teams is part of the game, we are pretty set at wide receiver at the moment so as long as he has something to bring to the table, he stays. Lets not make returner a need because we went after something that we really do not need.

This signing has to mean that we plan on using Hawk more. This deal doesn't look too good from the jump but if we plan on using him more then it could end up being a bargain. Much like the Stevens deal.

I thought Hawk made a big improvement this year but I didn't think he'd get a new deal this generous.

he lost value because of the kick off rule....

he brings punt returning to us but for those wanting another wr then someone much like chris rainey(rb/wr/pr) can play them all type player or even a player like Josh Robinson who can provide cb depth along with return ability...it all depends i just dont see the point of drafting another receiver in the mid rounds unless he can replace mariani....as if mariani didnt show enough to move up ahead of hawkins last season then i dont know if he ever will so a mid round pick should be able to beat him out so basically we would have a roster spot taken for just a man simply for punt returns...when we could have another player on our team that could do the returning as well as provide depth at another position on the field

Just like Stevens I think is bit to high.

Hawk was always under fisher's shoe he played 4 to 6 games a year and with VY as the QB he was not gonna get any good passes.I think this year was somewhat like a rookie season for Hawk and I think he will improve as the 4th or 5th WR.With that said I think he is going to fight for a spot in preseason yet again.

Also on the Mariani issue is catching a punt enough to be in the NFL???I rather have rookie who is able to play both on offense and with special teams mariani right now is just taking space.

Umm, we aren't drafting any mid round WR's.

I would say only because we IR'd him this year. I doubt he is a Titan next year.

We know what we are getting with Hawkins, and thats a veteran who knows the system and can potentially become a big player. We started throwing the ball much more this season and he stepped up. It would be hard to replace what he is capable of from the mid to late rounds, so why bother trying to replace it their when we have positions we need to fill elsewhere?

Hawkins works hard, has a good attitude and has made improvements. Sure we could probably go out and sign a guy for the vet minimum and move on, but that guy would be Justin Gage and next season we would hear things like "this team is so cheap" and "our wide receivers suck". We can't have 7 Kenny Britts on our team like everyone thinks.

    No one thinks that.

I think we are trying to go the Green Bay philosophy. Keep the guys that have their head on straight and work hard, and can be had for reasonable deals. Yeah, I think both Stevens and this deal is too high but they aren't ridiculous or even completely unreasonable. The message is work hard and improve and you'll be rewarded, even if you aren't the "star" player.

As far as WR, I just can't count on Britt for 16 games. I think we have bigger needs, but I'm not opposed to trying to get a #1 WR in DeSean (if not franchised) or Bowe or a draft pick if the right person is there (lot of time left but Alshon Jeffery for instance).

After all, let's not do what we did to VY. This team did not deliver on receiving talent. We've got Locker now, I want him to have some weapons. And I think we need one more.

    I agree with this

I do think that we relied on Vince to do everything, like McNair, and he did not want to put himself through that. Who could really blame him, McNair seemed to be in constant pain.

Funny you should mention Green Bay, I was just about to compare the signing to them. People like James Jones for example, a vet who knows their system.

I think we are set for atleast this season to see how everyone progresses. Washington played lights out, Williams seems to be coming into his own and Cook finally clicked. Yea, it would be nice to have another stand out, but I think we have the weapons on offense to give a young quarter back some options.

I am just refering to next year, judges are still out on Williams progression, Washington needs to show he can keep it up and Britt needs to stay for 16 games.
