You know I have often wondered why Hawaii is not much higher on the college sports hierarchy than it is. You would think all you would have to do to recruit is say, "hey 18 year old kid, look around, you get to live here for 4 years...btw here are our cheerleaders.":)

they have huge scheduling issues, but otherwise you would think recruiting would be easy

Not really, I have been to Hawaii 3 times and every time I went you would just run out of more stuff to do.

California has everything Hawaii does on top of being cheaper all around.

Not trying to hate on Hawaii, because I sure do love it.

I too have wondered about Hawaii. I guess they just don't have the budget to sign big time recruits. I mean you'd think big name high school QBs or receivers would want to play in that offense and in that state, basically what big tt said. Only success they've had was Colt Brennan, Jimmy Chang, Ashley Lelie and Davone Bess. But isn't their closest road game a 6 hour flight? That's a long time. I've never been to Hawaii but I have been to Southern California and just thinking but if San Diego was as awesome as Hawaii than people would save their money and vacation there so I'd imagine Hawaii is a lot better. Just what I've heard from a guy at work...

But yea good hire. Norm has done some good things in college and for a school that's content with just making bowl games each year those are easy expectations.

Hawaii is nice; it's Oahu that isn't... at least the part where the school is. It's a busy, cramped dirty city. Still it's a thousand times better than any midwestern college and most western ones. And sure, the leeward sides of the islands look just like southern California, but we don't have stupid heat waves and high crime rates.

And the cheerleaders... oh, the hot little bronze Polynesian cheerleaders

The biggest downside is the very limited food selection. Thank God i got engaged to a chef or else i would have starved to death.

As for Chow, he described his coaching philosophy and it's the same as he had in Tennessee: west coast vanilla that doesn't prepare for strong defenses. 3rd and 18? Throw a five yard pass. That'll work great when bowl time comes.... just ask Colt Brennen.

Some of the best food I have ever eaten was at Hawaii!!!!

Fresh fruit which was amazing! And before I left I had sword fish, which was outstanding.

Were you living here or on vacation? That's pretty rare on the day-to-day. Everything is two scoops plain white rice and mac salad. Three times a day plus. Doesn't matter what time of day or night, you are going to eat two scoops of white rice and mac salad and you will like it. You want a vegetable??... you get CORN. Yes, they think corn is a vegetable here.

Tired of that fare? You get saimin, dry mien or wonton mien. Which I have come to really like, but not every day.

The island fruit is indeed excellent... I can't eat a Williams banana any more after having local apple bananas. Unfortunately, my favorite fruit ever- the Maui Gold pineapple- is no longer grown here. One small company got a hold of a very few fields when all the pineapple business left the islands (or got run out) but the one that I've had from them was absolutely awful... dry, tasteless and brittle. I'm hoping it was the exception.

You have to understand that we have perfect growing conditions soil-wise, but lousy conditions regulation-wise. Most food is imported via ship so that tells you what "fresh" is. There's no continental shelf, so there's actually very little seafood without fins. Local beef and produce is outstanding, but you pay dearly for it.

Ok, I understand the food thing, but forgive if we don't care a whole lot about your b$tching about it since you live where most would consider heaven.:)
