Would it be safe to say at this point that his "stunt" has backfired?

Mike Brown has held steady and not given in. The Bengals are winning in spite of lack of a vet QB.
In the end, Brown will still get solid trade value next offseason, meanwhile Palmer sits with his thumb up his rear - unable to play and will be a year slower when he does come back to The NFL..

I said this before when it all started but Palmer is okay with it. he has his money for the rest of his life and he also has a life outside of football... i think the only thing missing for him is a ring but it isn't as big as a deal... he's still competitive and would like to play football again if someone wants him besides the bengels... although he's probably done now... i dont see brown dealing him and even if he does by a small chance, i don't see palmer healthy for it either...

Palmer was awful the last year or so when he was playing so it's no surprise that the team is doing better without him. I guess that's a case of a player being greedy and it blows up in his face.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Raiders offer something stupid for him.

It will be interesting to see if the Raiders change how they do things now that Al Davis is gone.

Mike Brown is an idiot. Could've got two picks for Ochostinko but turned the offer down.

Now he's just letting Carson rot which is kind of funny (and what we should've done to CJ), but he could've got something for Palmer. Dumb all around.

It's my understanding that by retiring, Palmer will be a free agent next year. Is that correct? If so, good move by him. Getting out of Cincinnati any way possible is a good move.

Yes the Bengals are winning, however they are the Bengals, they'll find some way to blow it.

As for the Raiders making a move in the next few hours, doubt it, they have no draft picks for 2012.

He was serious about retiring - he says he has over $18M in the bank so it wasn't that risky. I do agree that Brown is the worse owner in sports

    Palmer is a smart guy.

Does this mean that he doesn't have passion for the game? If so, how long has he felt that way and did it impact his play? Dr. Eternal wants to know, mmkay.

im sure he's still competitive... he just doesn't want to play for the bengels....as for whether or not it affected his play last year... it's hard to tell... he still had ochostinko... but the line wasn't doing it's job...

he'll probably be playing next year as a mentor or something..
