I offer you a "high five"

Stop "It Sucks" all my post that bash college football and the NCAA. The truth might be inconvenient but it must be heard.

Regardless of whether or not anyone believes NCAA rules are stupid or not, Pryor decided to abide by those rules when he signed 'ship papers at an NCAA institution.

He was more than welcome to toss the football around in the arena league, CFL, UFL, whatever if he was unwilling to comply.

Personally, I think it stinks that Ohio State (or any school), OSU fans, and OSU players are going to pay the price for Pryor willfully flaunting the rules, while he gets off scott-free?

I don't know if it will hold up, but I applaud Goodell's stance on trying to enforce the NCAA suspension.

My bad. I don't take things so easily.

Rules can be wrong. The NCAA can be corrupt and college football can be broken.

I don't see college football as some sacred cow. I think it is one of the worst things we have.
A crooked system that builds millionaires on the backs of the poor.

A professional sports league hiding behind a label of amateurism.

Again their motives are far from moral. If you think their argument against paying players is based around the sanctity of the college game and amateurism you are crazy.
The ones in power just don't want to break up the pie.

These rules you are so angry about players breaking are about nothing but $. I like what he did. I don't praise him but I am glad he did it. It brought attention to serious issues that go on at every major university in this country.
The more the kids and programs take the more negative light the college game receives. I love it. Bring the rogue boosters into the light. Show the general public the parties, sex, money and drugs. Change is coming but not until it is forced.
The first university to give the NCAA the middle finger will receive a standing ovation from me.

For the NFL to join the BS party in their unofficial minor league is disturbing to me. What Goodell did was wrong.

I basically agree with you, but I totally disagree about what should/could be done.

Clearly the NCAA and NFL are both quite happy with things as is.

I dont have the answer, well I got ideas but who dont, but I would love a simplified rule book/code of conduct and zero tolerance enforcement of rules/code

I don't totally disagree with you here (reform is needed), but one item that seems to ALWAYS be discounted here is the fact that these "poor" players are getting FREE college educations...which nowadays including room and board can total close to $40k/year. How is that not compensation? Also, if a player truly takes advantage of this, and works to get a degree, the benefit to him completely transcends the immediate monetary benefits that he gets from the scholarship. This needs to be recognized while we are bemoaning the fate of these poor players who are being taken advantage of here....

T-XO is more concerned with the rockheads who have zero interest in getting their degree.

I agree with you. These guys/gals are handed the chance of a lifetime and I cannot muster much sympathy for the vast unwashed hords who squander that.

These are one year scholarships. Granted they are renewable each year but that is at the discretion of the university.
Many (not all) of these athletes come from less than desirable backgrounds. Many of them are not equipped educationally to succeed at a major university. Many of these kids never get that degree.

I do not know what the graduation rate is for kids who are recruited out of high school strictly to play football. I would be interested to know. Some universities are higher than others I'm sure but the point is it doesn't always work out. When a kid is offered a scholarship that is a one year deal that the university can get out of at anytime. The only plus I see is that many kids are given an opportunity that they would have never gotten if it were not for football.

I would like to see universities make a four year commitment to these kids regardless of on the field performances, injuries ect. If the student meets all academic and behavioral requirements he can stay in school even if he never sees the field.

If they are not going to let the players in on the fun financially (which they should) they need to at least guarantee the education. If the student can hold up his end in the classroom then the university should take care of the rest.

I still say the students should be able to sign endorsements and hold employment. The school nor the athlete should be nailed by the NCAA for selling their own signature. If he wants to sign his jersey and sell it I say go for it.

There has to be a compromise. Let them accept gifts up to a certain amount. Reasonable money, not five and six digits. Embrace the booster to a certain point. Let the university keep their money and amateur status. Let the elite players legally get what they are getting anyway.

Just ideas. I'll still will always think the universities should pay up but that is not going to happen anytime soon.

I take no real issue with your last post, so I clipped out the only portion that I want to comment to.

I agree that alot of these kids are coming in at a disadvantage. However, I also believe (and have heard from other players/former players when commenting about this on various radio shows) that, if someone TRULY wants to take advantage of the opportunity and try, there is literally no limit to the amount of tutoring, assistance, etc..that is made available to them. Again, another form of compensation that is pretty much discounted (tutors are usually $50-100 per hour).
