That's meaningless he was not even playing against 2nd string defensive backs. How many times have a we seen a player dominate in preseason? Based on that Jon Simon would have become an elite RB.

I'm all for giving him the opportunity and if he responds positively that is fine. It would be a shot in the arm for our team but it can't be something we count on.

FYI whitehurst and McCown were 1 and 2 in preseaon passing yards last year.

I'm just realistic, this guy might not have been drafted in 7 or 8 rounds by any other team. If he ends up being another Mel gray or Dante Hall that is perfectly fine with me.

Actually genius Hester did have a position he was a Cb at Miami.

Nice athletic comparison there. Hester vs Mariani.

I am all for giving Mariani a chance at WR. I think he's built for the slot perfectly. I'm glad he's impressing in training camp, and hope he continues to improve. All I was saying earlier is that kick return success doesn't always translate into offensive success. In Mariani's case, however, it's hope it does.

With his age and experience though, I just want him to continue to produce on special teams at this point in his career. With the challenge ahead of us this year, any help regarding field position we can get would be a GREAT help.

Maybe though most of the top slot receivers are shorter guys. Welker has been the best over the past 4 years and he is 5'9. But Welker is also white and that''s all that matters!

Bobby engram was a solid slot receiver for over a decade and he is 5'10.

Patrick Crayton might be the best comparison to marc. Solidly built at 6'0 he was also a 7th rd pick from a small school who was primarily a returner early on.

Do you have some kind of mental problem?
Hester sucked as a CB and wasn't in any way shape or form drafted because of his CB skills (notice he never played CB in the NFL). And the point I made (not that you care about someone's point because you don't ever get it) was that Mariani isn't LIKE Hester in that he wasn't some guy who was ONLY a good returner. I made no comparison to Mariani and Hester's athleticism.

I haven't seen a single post by me or anyone else saying Mariani was a sure shot STeve Largent or something. Nobody has advocated him being a sure thing. What I have read is erroneous comments that Mariani needs to he educated on how to play WR which is ridiculous. He was as much of more of a WR in college as he was a kick returner. He WASN'T Devin Hester who never was good enough to start for Miami as a CB, WR or anything and was strikly a gimmick player and a returner. Mariani doesn't need someone to explain to him what a curl in or post route is. AGAIN, nobody is saying he is a sure thing to be a real good WR but we can't assume he will suck either.

Speaking of sucking. There was a guy from Tulsa once (not a big school) who was drafted in the 4th round but was going to be cut. He got traded to a team for an 8th round pick and ended up being one of the greatest WRs in NFL history (HOF). So bottom line is some idiots figured this kid sucked, didn't have a chance and if we can get a draft pick for him before we cut him that would be great. His name is Steve Largent and the idiots were the Oilers. Now here is my point...(time to read carefully before replying so you get it right TIDE)....

You don't know if Mariani is Largent or Welker anymore than you know he is crap at WR. Actually, what little we do know leans toward the positive based on how he looks in practice and in the pre-season. Yes, he put up a nice pre-season against 2nd stringers last year but what is the guy supposed to do? Refuse to play? He can't control who he plays against all he can do is pay well when given the chance. So he will get more chances. We will see how it goes.

Oh, do you remember Mason and his first few years on the team? Couldn't you basically say the same thing about him (return guy, not crap at WR). His numbers were crap for three years. He had 14,25 and 8 receptions his first three years. What did he prove over those years as a WR? SInce then Mason has had 8 1000 yard seasons.

interesting signature. On the other hand, the wingers concentrate the wealth in few hands and proceed to starve the working class. At least with the socialists, we get something for a little while.

Really? The preseason is meaningless? Leading the NFL in recieving means nothing at all? because of the competition?

If that's the case, then anything a player ever does in college is meaningless when it comes to judging talent, because they aren't playing starting NFL competition?

You really should read your post before you hit 'Submit Reply'.

Get a damn clue. The 2 top Qbs in passing yards this last preseason was Whitehurst and Mccown. Are they elite? Does it even matter? Some star players hardly play in the preseason. Is Peyton Manning the 30th best QB?

I even gave an example of a titan guy who had a great preseason who amounted to nothing. Jon Simon. I guess that doesn't matter.

So what is your point so far? That the preseason matters and that color matters? You gave me an "it sucks" for expressing my disdain for this moronic idiot notion that we can only compare players who are the same race.

And how does his experience compare to Mariani? Not at all. Did Steve Largent make a pro bowl as a return man?

Nice job pulling another white Wr out of your arse. :sad2:
