Elantra is a good choice and made in the USA as well.
Actually 80% of all Hyundai vehicles sold in the US are made in the US.

Also I got 360,000 miles on a 1995 Nissan Altima (I did put in a used engine around 250,000 miles) before trading it in and it was running great when I traded it. Have 225,000 on a 2001 Altima I drive now.

Elantra was my first choice all the time, but they are tough to come by. Alot of dealers are actually marking up their price. Jim Reed (horrible dealership) was advertising all over their site the sticker price and when I got over there, they hit me with this upcharge (after having me sit around for a couple of hours). I sent them a letter calling them out on their bait and switch tactics. Now all of a sudden they have changed their prices on their site to show they are charging $1500 OVER sticker. Luckily my letter writing abilities got me the car a good couple of grand under sticker, but have to wait for the car to show up.

    A new one?

The new Hyundais are great looking. I'd even say better looking than all toyotas and hondas right now. Nissan is still hanging in there with the Maxima and Altima. But the new Elantra is about the best car in it's class.

But the new Genesis Coupe = beautiful.

It's always difficult to discuss the looks of "every day cars" with americans, US models of most cars have another front and/or rear design than in Europe.

    Yes...I'm getting a new one.

When the salesman at Jim Reed told me they were selling the Elantra for $1500 over sticker, I laughed at him. I know the Elantras are extremely high in demand right now, but there is no way in hell I'll pay $1 over sticker for any economy car much less a Hyundai.

In this area, they post the financed prices on the cars. They don't even want to sell you cars anymore. They seem to only want you financing or leasing. So much for being car dealers, now they're paper pushers.

leave it to DW too throw that thing into a discussion of economy cars. Whatever economy it might offer will be more than offset by the insurance and depreciation. might be a good car but economy won't be a selling point.

For total cost of ownership you really can't beat a $1000 12 year old whatever that you drive into the dirt over 2-3 years, then repeat. Not the way I do it but the $$$s say that is the best way to go.

plus that thing's headlights are just stickers!

The cost of ownership looked like that only matters if you plan to sell the car after 4-5 years. I'm not getting this car to get a new one in a few years.
