What were your expectations for a guy making $4.5M a year? His performance has been about what we should have expected based on what he did at Pittsburgh.

I agree. He definitely doesn't have "good" hands. He drops too many easy passes to label him as good hands.

He definitely hasn't lived up to the expectations of his contract.

I think the organization's expectations were that Nate was going to come in here and be the number one guy. He was the number 3 guy in Pitts and played well when given the opportunity. I'm guessing that the Titans thought that if they give this guy a chance at a starting WR position with more playing time then his play would reflect a starting WR and rationalize the contract given to him.

The Titan's have a history of paying FA WR's lots of money to come here with the expectation that they will be "the guy". The track record is horrible and we might be adding Nate to that list if he doesn't become more consistent this year.

I'm not sure they thought he was a #1 guy so much as they thought he would be a solid contributor who could stretch the field.

In no way do I see Nate as a bust signing like we have seen from the Titans in the past and these things get blown way out of proportion. If you look at what we had at WR before we signed him and drafted Britt it isn't pretty.

I think we've got some good playmakers at WR but I still wouldn't mind seeing us sign someone in FA like Mike Simms-Walker. The more toys we get for Jake to play with the better.

We are talking about a coach that had R. Hill and L. Thompson as starting DBs. Jeff was very stubborn in his ways and ego.

I want Steve Smith (Carolina). Let's trade Nate and next years 2 or 3 round pick. After the lockout of course.

Everytime someone mentions Nate dropping a pass at a crucial moment, they refer back to 2009. What about 2010 when he was pretty sure handed? Especially on 3rd down with his out routes.

I'd consider Nate's performance in 2010 to be fairly average. He wasn't particularly bad, but neither was he particularly good. He had good and bad games....but on the whole, I say his season was fairly typical of a #2 WR.

Granted, he had a number of very nice plays....and that great TD grab against the Cowboys was a thing of beauty. However, there were at least two occasions where he was directly responsible for an INT by cutting his route short while the QB threw the ball where Nate was supposed to be. We've also seen a number of plays where Washington could have made a big play or a critical catch if he'd just made the effort, but he was apparently more interested in waving his arms, looking for a flag, and complaining to the officials about incidental contact.

Barring a regression to his 2009 form, I suspect Nate will continue to be what we saw last year: a moderately talented receiver who has respectable production, but isn't as consistent as we'd like, and who tends to be a bit of a prima donna at times.

I agree. I think 2010 Nate Washington was a much improved player from 2009 Nate Washington. And I was the first to call for his head when he was dropping all those passes, but he did a lot better last year. That catch against the Raiders comes to mind, I totally called that playaction bomb right before it happened. I was there, fun time.
