I call bullsh*t. What's stopping Rusty from being "starter worthy"? MR himself said he had the arm strength, size, touch, release, and work ethic. What's holding him back? His sixth round status? He had one poor game, his first game ever. Ridiculous, I'm sure Rusty knows Locker is the future, but to demote him publicly to the media is something else.

I think it is BS, in the genuine sense. This probably isn't an entirely genuine message. I think what they might try to do is say "hey Rusty is awesome, starter material, etc." and show him off in preseason and see if they can't unload him for a late pick later (sort of like a lower scale Charlie Whitehurst deal). Everyone knows he's useless in TN but the fact is, he's got some pretty decent potential. If they can convince just ONE other team that, and get even his draft round pick in return, it's a success. There's no reason to let him rot on our roster.

Well, to be fair, you can't be "demoted" from a job you never had. He was a third-stringer. He started one game because of injury to the two guys in front of him. And he played about as poorly as anyone could've imagined. 138 yds, 0 TDs, 3 INTs and 54% completion against the absolute worst pass defense in the league. In fact, at the time they (Houston) were on pace to finish the season as the worst pass D in league history.

I don't look at Reinfeldt's comments as a negative at all. He's just being realistic. Sure, Rusty has the measurables. Sure, he COULD develop into a starter at some point. But if we're being rational here I think we have to admit the odds are heavily against him. There are guys coming out every year that have the arm, size, etc. But in the NFL you need to have that "it factor" to be a legit starter. Perhaps Rusty has it. But he sure didn't show it in his brief time on the field last year. He played exactly like you'd expect a 6th round third-stringer to play.

All that said, I do actually like Rusty and it would be awesome if he turns out to be the next late-round QB diamond in the rough a la Brady. I'm just not going to hold my breathe like some people seem to be. It is much more likely that all he ever becomes is a career backup, at best.

Rusty is the type of guy that needs around 4 years of training camp, pre season and learning from the sidelines. and maybe fill in during a blow out. he's got the features but he isnt ready mentally.

It was left out that Reinfeldt also said KFC is one of the vets they would look to sign to mentor Locker and come out and start. Im sorry but the guy has nothing left. If he wants to be an assistant QB coach or something fine but c'mon. Really? Im planning on going to at least one home game next season and would rather not get hit in the face by one of Kerrys errant passes. Keep looking Reinfeldt. Keep looking.

True, I'm not expecting much from him. If he can turn into someone like Volek for us, I would extremely happy. But, for someone who works as hard as Rusty does, I'm surprised MR would publicly say something like that about him. I mean, Rusty was organizing offseason practices, getting the guys together. To have your boss publicly say that he isn't starter material is unjustifiable IMO. I don't care how honest it was.
