I've pretty much been against taking Locker during this whole draft process and admittedly I was stunned when the FO "reached" on him at #8. When Gabbert fell into our lap when SF passed on him I pretty much thought it was a foregone conculsion who our QB would end up being. I sat my seven-year old son (Titans fan #1) up on my lap and we watched in excitement as Goodell walked to the podium for our pick...

With the 8th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select...

    Jake Locker????

*shakes head in disbelief* :shake: whaaaaaaat???

With that I thought, 'damn, the Titans just threw away their future. I'm mad and I think our organization made the wrong choice'. I was hot! I believed Gabbert was the more logical choice at that point. My son gave a little shrug and a "hmmph" and walked away shaking his head as well.

I woke up this morning and was talking to my son over a bowl of Cheerios and looked me dead in the eye and said,

"Dad, I've watched a couple of Washington games last season and I think Jake Locker is pretty good".

"Yeah, whatever". I said shaking my head again.

"No, seriously". he added "I think Locker can take us to the playoffs and I think he can take us to the Superbowl!!"

I never saw my son explain himself with such vigor, he genuinely seemed excited with Locker. He was pretty adament with his assumption. I saw no choice in the matter from that point, my son was happy and I was to be happy with him... he's my biggest Titans supporter here. I leaned over the table, looked at him and extended my hand...

"Hey son, I'll tell you this... if you're this adament about Locker and you think he is our quarterback, then I like Locker too".

I shook his hand and that was that, now I'm a Locker fan. I just hope he doesn't disappoint.

Carr's problem was that he was behind a crappy OL. That wasn't Palmer's fault. Carr was setting records in getting hit, and it absolutely ruined him. The Texans were an expansion team and had a TON of holes. So you need to use someone else to prove Palmer sucks. There are other points against him. However, he's also helped a lot of QBs become better, some of whom have regressed once Palmer was gone. Locker takes to coaching, and if he listens to Palmer, he should be fine. We can protect him WAY better than the Texans could Carr. In fact, Locker's about to get better protection than he's seen in years. It could make a huge difference in his pocket accuracy right away.

Locker can throw the ball. The fact that he's accurate outside the pocket proves that. He apparently did well in his pro day and his personal workouts for the Titans, again proving that he CAN play in this league. I'm excited by the pick.

Making excuses for Carr now? He wasn't good before and he isn't good now. I agree Locker won't have that excuse. Now I agree a crappy OL is an excuse while that situaiton exists (unless of course you hate Cutler, then it is his fault) but Carr has been in the league long wenough if he was good it would show.

What choice do we really have at this point but to jump on the Locker bandwagon and hope he can be the guy? No sense in making anymore excuses or bashing him either one. He is our guy. Go Jake!

    Accuracy- 55.2 for his career

I am not saying that he will be the next Steve McNair, but he is tough and will do anything for the team, just like McNair would have. Gabbert wowed no one in his years at Missouri. He fits the mold (size arm, strength, accuracy), but that does not always make the face of the franchise. I personally could not think of a better representative for the Titans and Mike Munchak then Jake Locker.

I can't help but think that with Palmer so behind the Locker pick, I have these horrible visions of Tim Couch dancing in my head...

Man, I hope not. Coming from a also-Cleveland fan by default, I cannot sit through that *hit-storm again.

    It's Locker or bust.

I'm not just saying this because he's now a Titan, but I love the Locker pick! The kid has the tools to be a star in the league for a long time and he's tough as nails. I think we should start him right off the bat, I see this season as a 8 and 8 season so why not?

I've been wanting Locker for a while now and he will be a good one. I rather have a franchise QB than some defensive line player anyways. Look at who's available still...you telling me we're not going to grab one of those guys?
