Don't misunstand me- I'm not saying wait for Luck for next year. I'm saying don't reach with a #8 pick overall for a mid-level QB.

I think a lot of teams needing a QB is inflating the value. The only QB on the board I'd consider wothy of #8 overall is Gabbert and I'm sure he'll be gone. And admittedly I'm no talent scout, but I don't see many of the other QB's worth a 2nd round pick (although I think there will be a run on the QB's by the 2nd round becuase so many teams have the need). I'd rather us take the best talent on the board with our 1st and 2nd round picks because I just don't see us winning many games next year. We can pick up a serviceable vet QB who will be just as good as any of those other rookies would be next year IMO. We can pick up our "build for the future" QB in a subsequent draft when the values aren't so overly inflated as they are right now. If Luck were to fall to us next year- so much the better. If not, I'm sure we can pick up a value prospect equal to any of the QB's other than Gabbert in this year's class and not have been cost a win because of it.

I like Kiper but sometimes he writes things just to hear himself write (er talk).

Not sure what he is basing this on and he offers very little substance. It depends on what type of QB the new staff is looking for but there is no better pure passer in this draft than Mallet. check this article on QBs. http://www.drafthistory.com/

Listen, if the Cowboys were supposed to be contenders last season we could very well be picking #1 next season. This is how the NFL works and everyone who thinks we could be the worst team next season has every reason to think that, it makes sense.

I agree with whoever said it above, find the guy we want, be it next year or this year, and get him. Missed picks in the top 10 are still hurting this team.

If we go 4-12 beat Houston and Colts twice and get Andrew Luck, I will be a happy man it's all about the future not now, this is what being a fan is all about.

I can see why someone would think we will be bad. We have legitimation question marks at QB, WR (Thanks Kenny Britt), OG, C, DE, DT, OLB, MLB (w/o Tulloch), and SS. If the answer to these question marks turn out to be 'no' more often then 'yes' we will be in for a rough season.

I personally have us at 5-11 to 7-9

Luck isn't the only QB coming out next year that can be a stud. Barkley and L. Jones are both going to be great pros. I'd be willing to wager that all 3 of those guys will be better pros than any QB from this class.

I at first thought I over estimated how great Luck is going to be. But then I listened to John McClain last week on 104.5 and he said verbatim what I've been saying since the end of the college season, "Next year, Andrew Luck is coming out and he is the best QB prospect to come out since Peyton Manning." Guys, if he's 1/2 or 3/4 as good as Peyton, I'm selling the farm to get him. I'm talking offering all picks from next years draft if we don't have the #1 pick and a couple of players on top of that if necessary. We can gradually build ourselves back up and with a solid, fanchise QB as the cornerstone of our team, we'll be contenders for YEARS to come.

I don't think we're the worst but let's not be blind homers here and say we're going 10-6 either...

    -New coaching staff
    -No QB
    -CJ2K is now CJ1K
    -?'s at OG and C
    -No depth on DL
-LB core is bad and oh about to lose Tulloch
-Who will be our #2 CB?
    -Chris Hope
    -No leadership
    -Britt trouble

The only bright spots is Chris Johnson, hitting the "reset" button by getting rid of Fisher and VY, Derrick Morgan, and maybe a few young guys stepping up (Verner, Curran, D. Williams, Mariani).

Now of course if we do have a season, sign a QB, draft QB for the future, make some nice picks, and grab a few FA's that can contribute then hey who knows what might happen.
