I'm down to two quarterbacks. Mallet and Stanzi. Thoughts?

Cam Newton sucks. He couldn't even tell Jon Gruden a play from Auburn's playbook that had some verbiage. The best thing he could come up with was, "36."

Walter football's composite big board of 7 different rankings has Newton averaging 17th.

The 7 big boards represented are:

Mel Kiper (ESPN), Todd McShay (ESPN), Rob Rang (CBS), Scott Wright (DraftCountdown.com), Tony Pauline (Sports Illustrated), Wes Bunting's (NFP) and Mike Mayock (NFL Network; just added).

Include also the rankings by Great blue north(4), FF toolbox(18) and Nfl draft scout(12) and Newton's average ranking is 15.3. 15.3 out of all the draft prospects from guys who either earn their living at this or study the draft as a serious hobby.

The worst ranking Newton had among the 10 was 26th.

So how then is it taboo now to even talk about him as a good pick at 8? With all his flaws and questions they rank him at 15 on average.

I nearly fell over when I heard that. Even a 3rd string High School kid could have come up with something better than that.

Jon Gruden thought Chris Simms was a starting caliber quarterback too. Gruden loves every quarterback until he has to coach them every day.

As a matter of fact, Gruden has told every quarterback that has been on his special this year that he would be successful. Obviously we know the chances of that happening are almost zero.

Cam in that same video also said that south Alabama redneck types(Tennessy XO?) who say he can't play in the nfl have provided ammunition and fuel for him to work harder to prove them wrong.

Both of those were his metaphors not mine.

I'll admit, I got caught up in the hype like a lot of people did. As of mid January I thought he was just a late round guy because of his stats and awards. I never really liked Newton as a QB, and came to realize; I only think highly of him because he's on ESPN, ESPN2, NFL Network, ESPN Ocho, etc etc 24/7 all the damn time. That ESPN hype Deuce always throws out there is real, and I knew that, but it kind of just sucks you in and creates this artificial flavor of the month you enjoy sucking on because there's nothing better. If this draft had a clear cut No.1 player, Newton would be right there with Locker mid-late 1st at best.

I agree that Gruden won't say bad things about a prospect and seems to predict success for all the Qbs he works with but this comment goes a little beyond that doesn't it? He said Newton was the best player in the draft.

If you think Cam is only a mid first type prospect that is fine. You are not alone. But why then agree with some bubba who hates Newton as if he killed his family? There are posters here who think Newton isn't worth a 5th rd pick unless it is to play WR. Why agree with that idiocy?

Are you saying it's idiotic to say he's worth the 17th-32nd pick? If so, my response would be; I'm not sure where I'd put him then. All I am certain of when it comes to this guy is that he can do mostly everything, which IMO warrants the 1st round grades he's been getting. He's far from being this years best QB so in no way is he worth a top 10, but the thing he offers, no other QB but maybe Locker offers. He can run, pass, and even catch TD's, that's pretty good for anyone. He also won the Heisman, and a National Title which in itself gets you major attention. The alluring thing is the hype, and he's handled that fairly well.
