I really don't understand the hate for this guy.

Vince Young with brains and maturity sounds awesome to me. What's to hate? Vince's flaws were that he didn't work hard, never learned to read defenses and fell apart whenever he faced adversity. If Kapernick can bring everything to the table that Vince did (strong arm, good mobility, good size) and also fix all of the problems that Vince had, doesn't that sound really good?

I agree that Kaepernick is raw as heck. He is a 1-2 year project for sure. Maybe I'm crazy, but I would rather be patient and draft a guy who has the chance to develop into an A+ player than play it safe and draft a guy who is more pro-ready but is never going to be better than a B+ player (like Ponder, Dalton and Stanzi). Kapernick's upside is huge.

I say shoot for the moon. Try to build a dynasty, not just a team that can barely squeak into the playoffs every year.

Just thought up another stupid reason not to draft the guy, his name is "Colin". Too many bad memories in TN surrounding "Collins", a very similar sounding name LOL.

He actually could turn out to be good. Just like Locker, Kaepernick has a baseball background that only reassures he's worth something. He's not just another guy playing football like Mallett is.

Read the post... didn't say shut him down as a possibility. I just said not in the first two rounds... you don't draft "project" QB's until after round two in my opinion.

You're talking about a team with one, ONE, QB on the roster... Rusty Smith. So we draft Kaepenick in the 2nd round and sit him behind friggin' Smith. We can't sign free agents until after the draft so we just don't know what QB will be out there. In all likelihood the QB we select may have to see the field at some point this season.

I'm much more comfortable taking the best defensive player in round one, followed by a Dalton or Ponder in round two. If Kaepernick is still on the board in round three then, fine, we could take him there.

hey if the guy is a 2-3 year project then lets draft him. We could then bring favre out of retirement and let kaep sit a couple years. then win a superbowl.

    *sarcasm*

some of you guys have strong opinions on this kid though.

Here is the problem. You just don't draft a "project" quarterback when you only have one quarterback on your roster; especially when that quarterback is Rusty Smith. We don't have the luxury, since free agency will come after the draft, of sitting a guy for 1-3 years to allow him to learn. We took a "project" QB in 2006, 3rd overall, I hope we can learn from that mistake.

In general I really believe that you have to get starters with your first two picks of any draft, so "project" picks should come in rounds three or later. Gimme Aldon Smith/Prince Amukamura/Quinn in the 1st, Dalton or Ponder in the 2nd, and Kaepernick in the 3rd. I really have no qualms trying to hit a home run on a project player in the 3rd round.

The Titans absolutely do have that luxury.

It is a certainty that the Titans will sign and start a veteran quarterback in 2011. This has been discussed before on this forum. We can all see it coming a mile away.

Yes, free agency hasn't happened yet. It will happen before the next season, though, and there are plenty of veteran QBs that will be available who are capable of guiding the Titans through the season why the rookie develops. Bulger. Hasselbeck. Heck, even Delhomme. Failing that, there's always Collins. Plenty of comparable and capable guys to choose from.

There is absolutely no reason the Titans can't draft a project QB in this draft and no reason why they can't do it as high as round 1-2 if they want. To suggest otherwise is simply flawed.

It would be a huge mistake to take a "safe" QB with limited upside in this draft just because of the fact that the Titans don't have a solid veteran QB at the moment.

Great, I'm so looking forward the have Marc Bulger be our QB for two years while Kaepernick watches from the bench... The whole time we'll just hope that he can become a good QB, good lord. But, of course, we won't know for three or four years.

Wait patiently while the Titans start a medicore veteran QB for a couple of years while a rookie with the gigantic potential develops.

    or

Play a rookie QB with limited potential without giving him the chance to develop at all.

I know which option I'm choosing. Like I said before, my goal is not for the Titans to go 8-8 every year and maybe squeak into the playoffs once or twice but then get knocked out. My goal is to build a dynasty and win multiple Super Bowls.

***I would like to add a disclaimer that I'm not even close to being sold on Kaepernick. I think he could easily be a bust and never develop at all.

However, I steadfastly believe that the Titans need to draft whichever QB they believe has the most upside. I don't care at all if it will take a few years for the guy to develop. The only thing the scouting department should be looking for is long-term potential in the NFL. Get whatever guy has the highest upside. Do not draft a QB with limited upside just because he is "safer".

You've probably already done this, but I don't want to go through all the threads.

So what QB should we draft a 8 that will be our future Hall of Famer and lead us to a Superbowl? I don't see anyone.

So if we get Kaepernick in the 2nd or late first via trade and give him a few years to develop what's the problem? It's just a futures gamble.

Edit: Ok I see it is Andy Dalton in the 2nd round. News flash, he aint gonna start next year and lead us anywhere. It's simply a different gamble.
