If I could guarantee that I got Austin in the 2nd, I'd go with option 1. If I was actually making the picks, I'd do option 2 cause Eh... If I was actually drafting I would go with option 2 cause I wouldn't rely on Austin being there.

I still can't decide which QB I like in this draft. Locker would be my #1 but I'm not too high on him. Honestly, if I had to pick a QB at 8, I'd probably take my chances on Newton. I'd trade down to pick up Locker, I don't think he's worth the #8 pick.

The raiders released Robert gallery today, maybe he would fit?

I'm liking Muhammed Wilkerson out of Temple over Austin now. He is rising fast and might be a 1st rd pick. Big and fast DT that everybody wants.

Similar characteristics to Austin but maybe not the baggage. A great inside pass rusher in the Big East. If in rd Austin and Wilkerson were both on the board i would take Wilkerson. He seems to use his talent better.

The issue for Wilkerson is getting in the weight room and getting stronger especially in his lower body. Vertical and broad jump were not good. Mediocre bench but better than Dareus.

That's not such a bad thing because it suggests he can get better.

Do you think he could be had at our pick in the 2nd?

I doubt we can get him now because he is moving up on everybody's board.

Not taking anything from Marcell or Nick BUT I think Austin is underrated and would've been considered one of the top if not the top DT in the draft if he had played this season. He wowed scouts at the senior bowl and had exceptional numbers at the combine, right up there with Nick and Marcell. He hit 225 more than any other D Lineman other than Panea, and more than any O Lineman.

Is love to see a draft where we got:

    1. DE Bowers or CB Prince (Finnegan has been burnt toast the last two years and I wholeheartedly believe in drafting the BPA
    2. DT Austin
    3. QB Colin Kalpernick or Andy Dalton

    OR

    1. DT Dareus or Fairley (whoever is available)
    2. LB Bruce Carter
    3. QB Kalpernick or Dalton

All would be great value picks

    Couple things.

Finnegan did get burnt, not all of that was his fault. Last year we were 18th in sacks, and didn't get a whole lot of pressure on QBs, they had all day in the pocket. ANY CB would get burnt when a QB has all day. This year Chris Hope, or should I say Hopeless, had the worst safety coveage I've ever seen. Finnegan is still a good corner. I'm not saying he's an ELITE corner, but he's not "burnt toast".

On both of those mocks you have the Titans taking a 3rd round QB. Do you think either of those QBs will actually turn out to be a future starting QB for us? Probably not. Also you misspelled Kaepernick.

Not to mention Austin may not be there in the 2nd, and Kaepernick probably won't be there in the third...

I'd bet Kaepernick is available in the 3rd. Can't see him being very high on anyone's list. Pretty average run of the mill prospect.

I honestly think this is a terribly weak draft for the positions we need to upgrade the most: QB, OL, S, & LB. ALL of the QBs have MAJOR knocks in their game (accuracy, arm strength, ability to read defenses, character concerns). There arena any guys I see that are "pro ready" and that being said I dont see that big off a difference in the first and second tier QBs. Could anyone honestly say that Gabbert is by far a better prospect than Ponder, Dalton, or Stanzi? NOPE!

Our team is in a state where we need to upgrade across the board, so YES I can see us waiting that long to take a QB. Call me crazy, I think KaEpernick is just as good of a prospect as Cam Newton BUT with a GREAT attitude (loves being a football player not being an icon or entertainer). ONE way to mask our deficiencies is to upgrade our lines on both sides of the ball, that's why I'm a big proponent of grabbing a big nasty DT
