I agree 100%...QB is not the position you wait on and "settle" for the next option. You identify who you want and go get them.

    that's correct.

But at the same time, if you are 80% sure the guy you want will be available a few picks later, wouldn't you try to trade down.

Most people (on this board) think that the Lions would be willing to trade up with us, if Prince is still available. They have the 13th pick. We could easily switch 1sts with them and pick up and extra 3. Depending on what QBs were taken before #8, we should be able to still get Locker. I don't see the Vikes taking him, and the 'Skins should take Gabbert or Newton over him.

I still don't think you trade down. If the guy you believe is your franchise QB, you take him. Adding a 3rd is not worth missing out if you believe he is that QB.
Anything can happen in this draft, I would not be shocked if Gabbert and Newton were both on in the first 3 picks, and I would not be shocked if both made it to us.

Accuracy in reference to throwing WRs open, leading his WRs, dropping the ball in behind the sitting CB and the closing S, etc. But, since you like #'s so much, Ponder completed 68.8% his junior year, before his elbow injury.

I don't base my opinions off the combine, the only thing I looked for yesterday was if Ponder had his arm strength back, which he does. If you wan't to talk about film, why don't you actually watch some? Newton rarely anticipates routes, rarely ever makes more than one read, and rarely ever sets his feet properly. Actually watch the film, don't just regurgitate the nonsense that the idiots on TV say.

David Carr had 46 TD, 6 INT his final year at Fresno State, and I remember thinking the exact same thing about his accuracy then. If you honestly believe that that joke of an offense they ran at Auburn will translate to the NFL, you've deluded yourself beyond belief.

You're kidding right? Don't even get me started on the Newton comparisons. I'll bet, if Newton isn't drafted in the first round, he'll be out of the league within 2 years. The only reason a team would keep any longer is if they invested a first round pick on him.

Guys can mature, learn a work ethic, and become knowledgeable of the game. You can't teach someone to have a cannon for an arm and learn the right "touch" on passes. That's why I chose Mallett. I feel all of the stuff that is considered a "downside" with him can be changed, where as someone like Ponder, who might be smarter and have better character will never have a strong arm.

Give me a hard worker with accuracy over someone with a poor work ethic any day. Work ethic is not something you just change, especially when you're handing a kid $30+ million. Someone on NFL Network said it perfectly yesterday, "If he has a bad work ethic when he's broke, what makes you think that will change when he has money in his pocket."

    BINGO!

See the New York Jets. They were one of only a few who thought enough of Mark Sanchez to build their team around, now look at them. They've played in back to back AFC title games in two years.

Locker impressed me the most, but I still want Newton 1st, Locker 2nd, and Mallett 3rd.

Yes you are right, guys can and do mature, work hard, and learn the game. But our next QB needs to be doing those things before this week. Mallett seems like another natural gifted guy who's riding this football thing out til it ends, much like Vince seems to be doing. QB's can't get away with that, RB's & WR's can, but not the QB's. Is he doing anything to prolong his career? Getting defensive shows he's set on doing him, and will go that way til a D-Lineman knocks him out. Both Locker and Ponder come off as two guys that would adjust to keep playing.

When I first read this I thought you meant you wanted a QB in each of the first three rounds :ha:
