Watt is moving up as a DE prospect. A similar propsect to Tyson Jackson 2 years ago he is projected as a 3-4 DE but i think would be great as a 4-3 DT in our system.

6'6 292, projected speed 4.85. 7 sacks in the big ten last year. Great motor. Lots of activity for a DE, 43 solo tackles, 7 sacks, 2 FF, 1 int, 6 PD.

Has some of those Julius Peppers, Mario Williams, Carlos Dunlap qualities. Combination of size and speed could be devasting from the inside but can also play on the outside if needed.

Capable of getting bigger and stronger and being a full 300 lbs.

Like Lamarr Houston who i touted last year he played some of his best football against the best teams. 10 tackles and a sack against Mich St. 2 sacks against Ohio State. 6 tackles against Michigan.

Worth an 8th pick? I think so he will not be there in rd 2. From our perspective in our 4-3 defense a comparable prospect to Dareus.

Good post, and analysis, if we trade back I could see it, but not at #8, one of Dareus, Fairley, Bowers, Quinn, or Cameron Jordan will be on the board at 8, and I have all 5 ranked over JJ.

On a side note, I have seen a few mocks that have Cameron Heyward sliding to us in round 2. If we go with Blaine Gabbert at 8 like I think we will, Heyward would be a steal at 39. I actually wouldn't be against drafting Dareus or Fairley in round 1, and Heyward in round 2. Fixing those holes in the dline will make the entire defense better.

Note: Just watched NFL Total Access, and Mike Mayock said JJ Watt was moving into his top 10, so you're not too far off here, although I would still take the other 5 ahead of him. If Amukamara and Peterson are off the board, I could easily see Watt landing in Dallas at #9.

I think Heyward has some serious motivation issues. I think he'll be available at 2.

Yep, there are numerous questions about his motivation. I see a kid like Haynesworth was, if you can get max effort he will be a stud, it's just a question of how many plays a game can you get max effort from him.

Heyward is a monster. JJ Watt has a non-stop motor... couldn't see him as a DT though. But hey, he's bigger than JJones.

Imagine a bigger version of KVB playing inside.

I love the idea of that motor pursuring plays sideline to sideline.

His weight at the combine was 279 so he has been training for speed and his 40 time might be better than projected.

Draft countdown lists Watt as the 5th best DE prospect but the 14th best prospect overall because of his versatility. No question about his motivation and he has a very high football IQ.

I think he will get his hand on a lot of footballs from the inside and has the work ethic to get in the weight room and become bigger and stronger.

I like that he is a former walk on like Matthews. I think he could stay at DE and still be effective but at 279 he would have to put on another 15 lbs to move inside. If we move back yes but if we stay at 8 no. I want Dareus,

Does he fit a 4-3? I keep seeing him projected as a 3-4 end.

If you watched the Rose Bowl, Watt absolutely dominated in that game. He does remind me of a bigger KVB. Keep in mind Babin, Ball, and Ford will all need to be resigned. If we only resign 1 of the 3 we will be a little thin at DE. There is great value in the draft at DE and if we address a bigger need in round 1 (DT, QB, LB) we might find that one of the DE's we had a 1st round grade on will fall to us in the 2nd. Keep in mind, we have the 7th pick in the 2nd, so we'll be one spot higher than in the 1st.

I do agree that Watt doesn't fall to the 2nd but someone like Heyward might. I like Heyward, he had a great bowl game against Arkansas.

I watched Wisconsin 3 times last year, and I wouldn't mind this guy in Nashville at all. This guy is all over the place.

I have a feeling that alot of teams are going to regret not drafting this guy. Kinda like Clay Matthews :)
