Disagree. A month or two ago, he was behind Mallet, Locker, Newton, and Luck. Now Mallet and Locker have fallen from grace, and Luck decided to return to Stanford. With how Mallet and Locker fell, why would he risk the same? Even if he thinks he can do it, there's no need to take a risk for what could potentially be a large negative and very little positive.

I do know what you're saying though, a guy who is an absolute, positive, true alpha dog would do it.

Gabbert is a guy who can make all the throws according to the scouts, so why wouldn't he want to show that off in front of the entire NFL? Can he really make all the throws or what..... This suggests he can't IMO.

So Mr. Hype isn't gonna showcase his great passing skills at the Combine for all the football world to see? I'm so shocked. :sarcasm:

Can't say I didn't see this coming, dude is riding high on the hype and he knows that if he does throw at the combine he will be exposed as a fraud. And I don't just say that blindly, I've seen this kid play a lot and Missouri was nothing special to watch with Gabbert as QB.

I think it's crazy that this guy who has proved nothing at the college level is not only being mentioned as a 1st round pick but also the best QB prospect overall.

Your putting way to much stock into the combine. They do watch tape of the games he has played in. If he sucked as bad as you say the scouts will find out through game tape not some throws in shorts and a t-shirt to random recievers.

I really don't think this is a smart move by him and I don't think he's a 1st round talent. He's just become the #1 QB in the draft by default.

That being said, I would say 80% of the mock drafts I've seen lately have us taking Gabbert at 8. Not sure if they actually think we will take him or if it is just that they know we need a QB and he's the top rated QB on the board.

    He's being smart.

He's ALL hype and no substance... so why would he expose himself?

He knows he's a pretender. The NFL doesn't (apparently).

Might as well let them keep believing... take the check and bust later.

No I take the Combine for what its worth, and yes he sucks even worse than I'm saying he is and that will show on game tape.

My main gripe is this, Gabbert doesn't play in a pro-style offense, hasn't won any awards for outstanding QB play, no Heisman, no conference Championship, no National Championship yet HE'S the top QB prospect over a proven winner in Cam Newton. Not saying I want us to take Newton, just saying I find the hype behind a guy like Gabbert is warranted.

You see, for a moment there, I thought you were talking about Cam Newton.

Some of you guys really don't understand how things work. Saying this decision will knock Gabbert down to the 2nd round is ridiculous.

Gabbert may well be a pretender, but even legit QB prospects don't throw at the combine. Sam Bradford, Matthew Stafford and Matt Ryan all chose to not throw at the combine. If you know you're a lock to be a top 10 pick, there's nothing to gain by throwing at the combine. The only direction you can move is down.

You can't fault Gabbert for not throwing at the combine. Go ahead and fault him for the things he did (and, more importantly, didn't do) during his college career, but don't criticize him for making the right decision about the combine.

Yea I have to completely agree. Definitely not surprised that he's not throwing at the combine..he's certainly riding the wave here. But if im a GM that holds a pick at one of these premium spots..I have to pass on a guy like Gabbert. I could see Luck skipping out...but one of the only reasons why people are even discussing Gabbert is because Luck decided to go back to school. I feel as though many "analysts" are sort of over compensating because there isn't that #1 QB in this draft. So they're grabbing onto whoever they can
