Morgan was a bust.

 

Tag Babin?

Wow, he made vet minimum last year.

He stood out for the sacks but his penalties offset his positive plays.

I really don't see him coming back at all.

 

guess no news is good news... if there isn't anything new on Morgan.. i betting he's recovering well.. otherwise we would've heard something

 

Babin is right now one of the only play makers that we have on defense. He had a either a sack or a stuff in nearly every game and was one of the main reasons that we were 5-2 to start the season. As a whole our entire team was an undisciplined wreck last year. I Babin the answer for DE long term? No, but tagging him allows us to keep him for another season w/o giving him a long term contract.

Going into 2011 our starting DE's are Morgan (who is coming off an ACL) and Hayes or Ford. Without Babin we have a giant hole at DE and I don't think we can afford that if we want to stay competitive in 2011. Keep Babin for a year and let Morgan get healthy then we can draft a new guy in 2012 if we want when our team looks better.

 

I was watching a Georgia Tech basketball game earlier in the year and they very briefly talked to Morgan. He said that things were going as expected and he looked forward to being 100% and proving himself. Standard answer stuff, really.

As far as Babin, I can't see him being tagged. I think he wants to stay, so it will be a matter of if anyone is willing to overpay. I think there is a fair chance he will be back.

 

Kuharsky blogged a week or so ago that the tag number for DE's this year would be around $13 million. Do we really want to pay Babin $13? I don't.

 

No he's not worth it.

 

He isn't yet, but he will be.

Said it from day 1- that he'd never make it on the field.

 

Babin is not worth his tag #. I would rather see us sign a DT like Barry Cofield or Alan Branch and move Jason Jones to DE. If we keep Jones at DT then go after Mathias Kiwanuka. If Babin was the missing piece in us making a run Id be fine with the tag # for one season, but we have needs all over the roster.

 

No way Babin deserves top DE money.. He is a journeyman who had one good stop, and isn't he already in his 30s? And I think he gave back all of the sack yardage with the bonehead penalties he created.

We should thank him for his effort, and wish him the best. He'll make some good money with someone else next season.
