Almost sacrilege to say this but I'm bummed that the last Blockbuster in my neck of the woods is closing.. The day of the "video store" is almost officially dead.

I really liked getting out of the house and browsing shelves, maybe chatting with a stranger about titles. The digital age is bringing us to new frontiers in ANTI-socialism.

Making an already antisocial hobby (not antisocial, but inherently independent) more estranged from other people. I completely agree - there's something great about browsing the shelves for a hidden gem and chatting up the geek behind the desk.

    Just doesn't exist anymore.

I hear ya. I supported a local Mom & Pop for years and years up until around '08-'09. Then I simply couldn't deny Netflix's superiority any longer. It's just so much cheaper and more convenient that B&M stores. And then there's the streaming capabilities.

It's sad seeing them go but I'd be a hypocrite if I complained too much.

True. I griped at Traci for supporting RedBox over the local B&M, but the local was a franchise on it's way to failure anyway. I bought her a new kind of redbox: the red limited edition Nintendo Wii which happened to have Netflix streaming movies. Now she's browsing their titles constantly.

I gotta say, it's kinda nice to say "hey, let's watch that!.... *click*..."

On the plus side, cheap movies/games abound in that store before it closes its doors for good.

Of course as I'm clearing out the store of it's few remaining worthy grabs (The Lost, old version of Susperia, oddball slasher flicks etc.) I find out that the kid who works the checkout is a huge Argento fan and knows his stuff. A kindred spirit - losing his job as on this Wednesday..

I'm impressed your BB had ANY Argento. I don't think I've seen a copy of Inferno or Superia at any store around here. I have to get my Argento fix from amazon.

Family Video does ok in my city, there's a few here. But BB, Hollywood video, and others are history.

Family Video has very low prices, and games help keep them in business.
