Yep, I think he can at the very least replace and do just as good as KC.

And from all the free agents QB's out there, in my opinion he is the most experienced along with the most upside.

He is not a total turd and is still young. Some of his past failures can be attributed to factors out of his control. What was expected of him and the situation he was in meant sure failure. He might be nothing more than David Carr but why not consider him? Leinart is another guy who is still young enough he could still blossum.

I'm sure SF fans and Cardinal fans would laugh if they read these posts but that is what this has come to. I'd rather give one of the younger guys a shot than settle for an old starter for a year. I do think bringing back KC might not be a bad idea as a backup and mentor. Say what you want about KC but when he has to come in during a game he is prepared and solid. Any team is in trouble when their backup has to start multiple games.

I actually hadn't considered this but it is definitely an interesting suggestion. He did play well in his last few games, unlike Kolb who had 3 int's in his last game. Just sayin.

I'd definitely bring him in as a backup to replace KFC. I wouldn't just hand him a starting job though, I would let him compete for it with McNabb who will be a better option at starting QB for us.

As I read this, I couldn't help but think that his stats are nearly identical to Vince's. Yet obviously all the blind Vince homers believe 'their' #1 QB pick in the draft is the man, and Alex Smith is garbage. Oh, the mighty homer eye,....it can offer an interesting view.

So let me understand this: We're going to somehow fix a QB who has alleged potential but has had too many OC changes by change his entire team and thus OC again?

What I hope we do is pick up two of these no cost QBs with OK potential and have them battle it out. Alex Smith and Bulger, something. Where two guys with no place else to go have to come in here and fight for the rest of their NFL career.

Desperation brings out the best if it's a competition.

Whoever we bring in needs to be at their last stop. We need a guy desperate for it.

The only way I could see Alex working out here long term would be to bring in a vet along side him. Let Alex sit for a year learning from some one else's mistakes while he learns the offense.

I can't see Fisher bringing in Smith for his potential last season as the savior of the franchise.

Exactly, create competition and may the best one win...

But I do have some faith in Smith... not saying we should just handle him the
job, but I think he can still progress to a top level.

Hew would be my 2nd choice behind Orton because as a free agent he wouldn't cost us a draft pick. Still he has had plenty of opportunities to play and has not produced above the level of a backup. He did prove the last 2 seasons he is not a total bust but a viable starting QB? No.

If the cost for him and collins are the same we could sign him as a backup or to compete with another QB but with one year left on his contract Jeff Fisher wants a real starter.

Trade for and sign Orton and sign Smith as backup.
