Rodgers has better pocket awareness and is a more effective runner. No one will make the argument that he's a better athlete, but his skills have translated into him being a better quarterback.

I'd rather Vince not run at all. He's pulled up lame multiple times without someone touching him throughout the years. He pulled his quad against the Bucs as a rookie. Pulled his hammy last year against the dolphins and re-aggravated his ankle this year.

The part about Vince not running anymore- I really feel like that has to do with the play calling. (Don't know if that burden should belong to Fish or Dinger) There weren't many boots or rollouts or even any options this year. Last year on our 8-2 finish, we used a lot of those and they worked great. The option plays were always so exciting to watch because it was like "pick your poison." But this year I honestly can't remember seeing an option play. Correct me if I'm wrong.

No, you're right, there haven't been as many called runs. But VY's first two years in the league his best play was running when the rush lost contain. This year he would rather just stand in the pocket and let the rush get to him.

I also don't blame the coaching staff for not calling runs for him, he's brittle.

That option stuff is silly. VY has a hard enough time staying on the field without getting creamed for no reason after a lateral. The nice thing about a forward pass is the rules provide for protection once it's gone. If I'm a LB I plow right through VY for shets and giggles whether the play is going away from me or not.

It seems like Vince always gets injured in awkward, ty situations. He's been in the pocket both times he got injured this year. But honestly, IF Fish had faith in him (that's a really big if), he could have been playing still this year. No one puts a QB on IR for a bad thumb [IMG]

Kurt Warner wasn't playing. Matt Leinart was.

We would've lost that game if Warner was playing. No doubt.

Football Outsiders has Rodgers ranked fourth behind Brady, Manning and Rivers. Brees is fifth. This was for THIS YEAR'S performance only.

I can't post the entire article because it's an ESPN Insider subscription, but here's the part about quarterbacks.

    1) Tom Brady, New England Patriots: 2,137 DYAR (2,141 passing DYAR, -4 rushing)

    2) Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts: 1,674 DYAR (1,674 passing DYAR, zero rushing)

    3) Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers: 1,658 DYAR (1,649 passing DYAR, nine rushing)

    4) Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers: 1,622 DYAR (1,521 passing DYAR, 101 rushing)

    5) Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints: 1,366 DYAR (1,366 passing DYAR, zero rushing)

Analysis: Although Brady actually had four more DYAR in 2009, he was more valuable this year because he accrued such an impressive performance in 73 fewer passing attempts. His DVOA suggests that he was 53.4 percent better than an average quarterback in the same situations, the best figure in the league by a much wider margin (Ben Roethlisberger was second at 38.2 percent) and almost as good as his 56.9 percent DVOA during the incredible 2007 season. Likewise, Brees' performance gets pushed up by virtue of his 658 pass attempts; according to DVOA, which measures performance on a per-play basis, he was 12th in the league.
