Nice. I love soccer. Growing up loving it and playing it's hard for me to see how people don't but I know what they mean. Soccer to them is like baseball to me. Playing it is ok, but still kind of boring- but watching isn't exciting.

I watched the World Cup live in Chicago when I lived there. Unforgettable. Almost went overseas to play when I was 15. Parents ruined that though. Being all parenty. haha

Cool to see American mainstream athletes looking forward to the Cup too though.

It's all banking on the US's success. If we ever win a cup, the nation will suddenly love the sport. We seem to only like the sports we dominate at.

disagree. USA could win consecutive WCs and nobody but the hardcore soccer fans will care. It is boring too watch. Lots of strategy, but Americans would have to educate themselves to see it, and they are not going too do so. JMHO though.

America started buzzing just last world cup with the surprising success the US team had. Had they won, everyone would have become soccer fans overnight- like it or not.

That semi-finals appearance proved that much. The nation all of a sudden wanted to watch soccer. Because we were good.

All nations watch their team when they are in the World Cup then when it is over no one gives a crap. Except Europe.

We were the same. Australia made the World Cup, even progressed (and got robbed) and suddenly it was Soccer will take over Australia, be the number 1 sport, AFL is scared bla bla bla and yet here we are with teams like Brisbane and Perth who don't even get 9,000 people to watch them.

Um, were we watching the same world cup? The last world cup in 2006 U.S. scored only 2 goals, one of which was an own goal by an Italian defender. The U.S. tied one game and lost the other two and went out at the group stage.

I think you're thinking of last year's confederations cup? In that tournament the U.S. went to the Finals against Brazil after beating the then ranked number 1 team in the world - Spain.

Yes, I believe the primary thing that is holding the U.S. soccer back is the stigma against the sport as well as the lack of success of U.S. sides.

They can fix one of those problems, if the U.S. achieves success you could see a new major sport arising in this country, with all the potential of international competition it could very well easily rise to the forefront of American sports.

    +1

    World Cup = Summer Olympics

Once every four years, people get excited about sports they normally couldn't care less about. When the event is over, so is the enthusiasm.

The World Cup is the rest of the world's March Madness. And they're right, it's better.
