Closing out playoff games in the past doesn't mean anything when it comes to closing out games this season.

The unfair advantage is being in a city with more than twice as many people as the next most populous city.

more people = more fans = more revenue = bought championships

^^ It doesn't take a genious or an experienced poster to know idiocy when they see it. I can name many, many smaller markets in other sports that have had parallel sucess to the Yankees. Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings in the NHL, Indianapolis here recently in the NFL, St. Louis has one of the better MLB clubs now.. But saying that NYC is the sole reason for their 27 rings is flat out ignorant. Put Steinbrenner in any MLB city, give him some time, and you'll have your rings. Its allllllllll $$$, and unfortunately, our nation's pasttime is simply a "who's willing to spend the most money" contest. There's no way above, below, or around it. It is what it is.

Your post reads like it was written by Eddyc85

I know, I spotted it in your post from a mile away

It doesn't take a genius to spell "genius" either

I know there are teams that have had success in other leagues. They do it by drafting well, making trades, and developing players. The Yankees make more money than other teams and have a douchetard of an owner who doesn't care about the spirit of the game so he just throws a bunch of money at good free agents.

This might be the stupidest thing ever written on the internet ever.

So being consistently dominate over a whole career means nothing to you? Marmol is a brand new closer, he isn't even in Rivera's league. Besides he's got 1 more blown save THIS SEASON so yea Rivera is even better at closing out games this year than your boy Marmol right now too.

Yea, bought championships, how much are championships going for these days? Funny, I thought every team STILL had to play 162 games. And yea the Yankees are in a big city, but the Mets are in the same one, how are they doing? Hell the Cubs, Dodgers, Angels, White Sox, Mets, and Phillies all of whom play in big cities don't have as many championships as the Yankees combined.

Just stop posting, you have no idea what your talking about. I'm honestly amazed I'm even responding to this nonsense.

You don't read your own posts?

Would you rather have Barry Sanders or Chris Johnson on the Titans next season? Rivera has accomplished more in his career, but Marmol is better now.

Do some research before you make retarded assertions. Marmol frequently comes into the game in the 8th inning with runners on base and finishes the game. Both of his blown saves are from inherited runners scoring. Rivera hasn't pitched more than one inning in a game the entire season. Marmol has a better ERA, more saves, and has closed out twice as many(6) one run games as Rivera(3).

Judging by last year, they cost upwards of $200 million. Funny, I thought it was easier to win games when you buy the best players in the game.

New York is more than twice the size of any other city in the US. The Mets are a relatively new team so the Yankees already had a well-established fan base when the Mets came to town. The fan bases of Chicago and Los Angeles should be pretty evenly split. New York is more than 5 times as big as Philadelphia.

I know exactly what I'm talking about and you should learn to respect your intellectual superiors.

I'd rather have Rivera on my team right now because he's proven, Marmol has pitched in how many post season games exactly? And since he's on the Cubs he's not going to pitch in any, anytime soon.

Marmol has to play more because the Cubs bullpen is God awful. He has 1 more save, hardly worth mentioning and an ERA .2 higher, also not worth mentioning. With closers it's about who blows the least amount of saves, that's the only stat that matters. Marmol has 2, Rivera has one.

*Yawn* I've heard this argument a million times over and it's so stupid. Is NY breaking any rules? No, there's no salary cap. Is NY generating money which goes to the small market teams? Yes.

Looks to me like the Cubs owner is worth 1.7 billion more than the Yankees owner. How do you explain that? You're just a bitter Cubs fan jealous of another teams success. Besides, you have to know which players to sign. The Cubs make terrible decisions year after year and it shows and that's why you haven't won a championship since the middle ages.

48 Years is relatively new? Do you even know what you're talking about anymore? But I must say, I've never seen someone blame the city NY plays in as a reason for them being good. And even if we did buy the whole team they wouldn't have won a championship without Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, Williams, and Rivera all of whom were drafted by the team.

No you're not. You're a bitter Cubs fan. This is why I root AGAINST the Cubs. Most Cubs fans I encounter, in fact 99% of them are intolerable. The Cubs are an overhyped glorified loser team. And like it or not they spend money but rather then spend it wisely, they sign losers like Milton Bradley or Soriano.

You'd rather have a 40 year old closer who isn't as good as Marmol instead of Marmol? I guess we can just agree to disagree.

The Cubs bullpen has a lower ERA than the Yankees bullpen. You're right, the stats that Marmol is better in (the ones that matter) aren't worth mentioning, but the one that Rivera is better in is worth mentioning. And thanks for ignoring the part about the inherited runners scoring, that was pretty cool.

I didn't say it was breaking the rules. It's like having sex with someone and not telling them you have herpes. It's not illegal, but it's a douchey thing to do.

"Relatively" is a big part of the term "relatively new." The Mets aren't even half as old as the Yankees. That's some good research you did there . . . Williams and Rivera weren't drafted by the Yankees.

Yes I am, and I'm not bitter. If you ask anyone they will tell you that Yankees fans are much worse than Cubs fans. The Cubs don't even spend 3/4 of what the Yankees spend on players.

Except Rivera is BETTER than Marmol, you're probably the only person on earth who doesn't think so. I want someone who has proven to be dominate on the biggest stage, Marmol hasn't done that. He hasn't even been a closer for a year.

And thanks for not mentioning Marmol has a post season ERA of 7.94, that was pretty cool. I wont deny Marmol is a good closer, but he's unproven for the long term and nobody on this planet except a dumb cubs homer would rather have Marmol this year than Rivera.

Signed, whatever. They were not brought in as big free agents is my point.

So spending money to get good players to try and win is a douchey thing to do? Got it. So I guess when the Cubs signed Lee, Soriano, Fukudome, Dempster, Lilly, and Milton Bradley that was OK right?

You are clearly bitter. If you weren't bitter you wouldn't be complaining that NY spends money when the Cubs owner is worth 1.7 billion MORE than Steinbrenner. And I think you better recheck your numbers.

NY 2009 Payroll: 201 million 1st in baseball
Cubs 2009 Payroll: 134 million 3rd in baseball

You may not spend as much (although you still spend a lot) but you sure as hell don't win 3/4 as much as NY does. But maybe you're OK with that, part of the allure of the Cubs is that they're the lovable losers, nobody becomes a fan of the Cubs because they're good.
