    Well...

In the NFL there is something that supercedes conventional wisdom....HISTORY.

Many teams try what you are suggesting and almost none of them have succeeded. The Saints would be the only recent team to win a SB with no D, but did they bring in another weapon for their offense to put them over the top? No, they actually added to their D (Gregg Williams, McCray, Sharper) and it was their D that ultimately got them into the final rounds and won them the game. I agree that Gage, Wash, Scaife aren't game 'changers'...but they don't need to be. Is Gonzalez on the Colts a game changer? No. But he works very well in their offense. The Colts really only have one game changer and that Peyton. We really only have one consistent game changer and that's CJ. We have enough weapons for this offense to be AT LEAST top half and really could be top 10 range with a better D or better special teams. Again, adding a McCluster will not improve our wins...just give us more to be excited about watching while we're being blown out and miss the playoffs. I want to win the Super Bowl, not have a flashier team.

This is an argument for a good returner, not a rb/wr you'd take in rnd 2 or 3. It ALSO is not as valueable as a player that can elevate our D from bottom 3rd to top half or top 10. Washington, Gage and Britt should NOT drop as many passes this year. Also not a good argument for drafting McCluster.

Morgan, Hughes, or Graham should do the trick to upgrade the pass rush. Then we will have 4 guys who can rush the passer just at DE and we will have a nice mix of talent, experience, and youth.

I don't think this is Dinger lobbying for more talent...he's lobbying for our current players not named CJ to step the heck up and demand they get the ball by being too good not to give it to them. Look at it from Dinger's perspective. Gage was hurt a lot, Britt was inconsistent with his routes and hands though very talented, Washington showed he can get open - just had trouble catching the dmn ball, Cook got banged up and didn't know the playbook and couldn't block well, Stevens has been a bit injury plagued and a question mark in the passing game, Scaife is good but below avg in blocking and not sure of his upside, Hawkins finally learned the playbook enough to see the field...but is he good enough to 'demand' action. That's a lot of question marks and I haven't even mentioned VY...

Who's gonna be a gamechanger on this offense THIS year besides CJ?

    My take anyway.

One thing nobody is talking about and that is the interior offensive line.

Even if they are totally confident in Harris getting the job done at center we still need to draft a guy for depth. Right now our depth on the offensive line are practice squad guys like Otto and Valesco. A quality guard in the third rd seems like an obvious move.

Drafting Mccluster means that we are going to carry 4 RBS. Makes no sense to go with a RB-WR hybrid guy when we have bigger needs.

i'd agree with that if we had a second round pick, but i think we should look for someone who will be in competition for a starting spot in the third. plus, it seems like we find good depth along the offensive line later in the draft anyway.

There is good value for guards in this draft and we could maybe get a guy like Shelly smith in rd 4 but guys like Black or Newhouse will be gone by the end of the third rd.

What position would a third rd pick honestly compete for a starting spot? CB maybe but with 2 vets in Hill and hood i doubt that.

This makes him an attractive pick to me.

I could see him switching to WR. Maybe playing a role similar to Harvin. After what I saw him do to Tennessee I would have no problem picking him up.

Harvin ain't a bad guy to be compared to. I'd take a Harvin type returner any day of the week.

I love McCluster. But if we pass on Arenas to draft McCluster I'd be ticked off. Arenas helps us on STs as a returner (best one in the draft) and a tackler and can play CB or NB for us. He helps in a number of ways. McCluster isn't even a proven returner at this point, he can't be comparered to S. Jackson who is actually bigger and was a proven WR, returner as well as a 4.3 guy coming out or Harvin who is much bigger. McCluster might be a Sproles type player for some team but we don't need that with CJ.

I would rather take Jacoby Ford in the 3rd over McCluster. We should also look at LeRoy Vann in the 5th for returner.

Jacoby would be a weapon. Much faster than McCluster. Ford doesn't really play RB, but would be a better WR and Returning. Plus then we'd have a Jacob and Jacoby Ford on our team.

    Um...

I think you'd be lucky for Ford to be available in rnd 3. Some team will probably take him in rnd 2 based on his awesome speed and big play ability. I also think there's a good chance McCluster goes end of 2 to early 3 due to his Pro Day 40 time. Plus, his change of direction is ridiculous which a team like New England could definitely utilize to devastating effect.

If our pass rush and coverage don't improve drastically, McCluster or Ford would be nice additions but won't do anything to the Win/Loss column compared to fixing our D.
