that arguement is thrown around a lot, and its true we really dont know whats going on... the FAs we go after probably get no serious interest from any other organization. if we cant get at least a few medium profile guys to come here we are either doing it wrong, or the arguement "well you dont know what the FO did" is usually BS.

its money, come here and well give it to you. pretty simple

First- Reinfeldt hasn't brought in any "big name or price" FA's- period. He doesn't do it- he doesn't take chances. That argument is like saying a guy is undefeated who is too afraid to fight. Maybe Reindfeldt just sucks at identifying value in high priced talent and he knows it. I CAN point out several examples of "high profile" talent FA's picked that have worked out well for other teams and there were many who argued that they were "overpaid".

We could also point out how much we've overpaid for retaining our average players- like Amano simply because we were familiar with them and needed depth. Again- because MR (maybe Fish) appear afraid to take chances.

Quality players DON'T come to Nashville because of our history of NOT PAYING as well as other teams. Talent follows the money. Everybody, including yourself, wants to get paid what your worth. THE MARKET dictates that and the market is determined by team needs and the collective assessment of value (upside) of a player. The Titans tend to not take chances on FA unless it is an inexpensive reclamation project with upside. There is also a long list (Kelly Herndon, Mike Williams, etc) of that type of acquisition that doesn't work out as well as KVB (who was Floyd anyway).

So I personally have become disallusioned with MR and Fish's style of staffing. They seem to reward guys from within the system as long as that involves not paying them a lot. I understand that in a capped year, but we are uncapped. And in response to your "one year uncapped" argument- wtf are we doing giving Amano a 5 yr 25.7 million contract. Yes- they front loaded it in an uncapped year with 12.5 million- but they could also front load some quality FA contracts in an uncapped year.

I get irritated with the often knee-jerk reaction some posters have (yourself excluded) about defending our FO. I'm all about loyality and I'm a Titans fan, but sometimes improvement occurs when we take off the homer glasses and audit how this organization does things. That is going to be difficult with an organization who keeps its head coach for 16+ years and advances his authority into the personnel management area. (We could talk about the low rate of success with teams that done this in the past but that is another topic altogether.)

If there was any big name FA worth pursuing, the Titans would go after him. Some year there will be and we'll all be blown away when it happens. It has to be the exact right fit for the team, though (and the Titans probably have to be just on the verge of the Super Bowl). I don't see that this year.

Every year it's a bunch of good/great-but-not-elite guys who get overpaid by a mile and, more often than not, don't deliver. The teams that go after them are desperate. They have desperate coaches and GMs who know that if they don't make a huge splash, then their desperate fan-base will turn on them. We should be thankful the Titans organization is run in such a stable way that that kind of desperation never happens.

Can we see what happens before we start freaking out again this year! Last year I believe we upgraded at reciever like we all wanted! We will make moves like we always do. Does everybody remember a few years back where we were overpaying for talent and we ended up in cap hell? Lets not just sign players because of their "Big Name" we need to find players that fit our system. Lets look back at some of the names everyone wanted...

Nate Burleson - Overpaid in Seattle (3 tds last season) now going to be overpaid by the Lions
Nate Clements - Highly overpaid and has become an average corner for the
    49ers
Torry Holt - Overpaid by the Jags and cut this year
Donte Stallworth - Jail and cut by Browns
Jerry Porter - Overpaid by Jags and now off the radar
Albert Haynesworth - Could have helped us this season, but clearly not the player he was last year. Surely not worth the $100 million contract he was paid

There are many more to name but these are just a few who everyone was clammoring over. Lets see who gets overpaid this year and a year or 2 from now will sit in this same category!

I don't see anybody "freaking out". We are just having a discussion regarding MR's FA style.

And as much as everybody likes to make lists- how did Drew Brees work out in NO? He was considered grossly overpaid at the time. Reggie White, Priest Holmes, Terence, Mathis, Brett Favre, Mike Vrabel, Antonio Pierce, Michael Turner etc.

My point is that it cuts both ways. And I would really like to hear how some of you can defend Eugene Amano getting $12.5 million dollars this next year. If that aint overpaying for average talent I don't know what is.

It fails to work out FAR more often than it works out. The list of big name FA signings who went on to earn every dollar is very small.

^^Maybe so, but there really isn't any way to quantify the risk to prove your point. The variables are all subjective regarding value (need, performance according to stats, etc).

My point is simple- nothing ventured, nothing gained. This organization has become complacent or reticent to take a few risks- especially regarding the higher priced talent. We've been burned on some WR's- but even those weren't paid very high so I don't understand the resistance to take a chance, especially when we have some serious needs and money available to address them.

The larger market teams can afford to take the risks because their fan base is more demanding of it. Chicago is currently looking hard at Peppers. Dallas' s FA history speaks for itself. Philly, Raiders, Redskins, etc. It might just be a market thing and that is it.

What are your thoughts regarding Eugene Amano getting a front loaded 25 million contract w/ $12.5 million for next year? Surely you'd agree that contract is way overpaid.
