It’s no secret; the Titans have some real worries in the personnel department heading into the new year (30 threads say so). With 13 or so players scheduled to see free agency, how can we keep ourselves competitive.

I suggest the Titans put Leroy Harris, Kerry Collins, Mike Otto, Jacob Ford, and Dave Thorton on the trade block before the 2010 season. All WILL be gone in 2011, so why not get something from them before our team is decimated by free agency in March 2010 (13 well known Titans could disappear).

Harris is an easy sale. He plays two positions, and has a LOT to offer. Mawae will come back for 2010 and Harris is too good to sit another 2 seasons.
Kerry Collins may decide to retire, but if he doesn’t we should ship him off somewhere to open up space in the roster for a player who will contribute. I am sure one or two teams would be willing to take a chance on him. To go along with their future 1st round QB, the Rams perhaps would be interested in entertaining that idea.
Mike Otto, and Jacob Ford simply get lost in the mix in Tennessee. Otto - a quality backup hasn’t done much to make a case for keeping. Ford - while he’s hot at times, other times he looks like a 2nd or 3rd string DE that he is. And as an undersized DE he doesn’t help much vs. the run.
Lastly we have David Thorton. A proven veteran that when sidelined isn’t missed. Rookie - Gerald McRath is on track to replace him anyhow. And with lingering injury issues he doesn’t have much left.

Not that moving all of our 2011 problems will help us now or in the 2010 season, but it could help decide which direction we travel, in terms of signing back some current players. Moving dead inventory for new stock is a normal business practice that I feel could help us stay competitive in the 2010 season.

I think its a bad move to let Harris go...that guy plays well in just about every position, and I am not sure it is not time for Mawae to move on.

He's said it a number of times; he wants to play until he can't play anymore. That to me sounds like Mawae is happy with everything in Tennessee, and hopes to stay for some time. How long would you think a talented player like Harris is willing to wait? Chris Carr left a great situation in Tennessee for an opportunity, and so will Harris if we allow him to. That's why I'm suggesting we make a move before he does on his own, and were left out in the cold.

Scaife is the guy to trade. We need to get Cook on the field.

I'd also trade Lendale if we can find a sucker stupid enough to give up something for him.

Oh...I fully understand what you are saying...get something for a quality player while you can...I just wonder if its in the long term interest of the team to let him go. I just question whether a guy that can play across the line like that isn't better to keep around than an aging vet who may be one more injury away from the IR or worse.

We need Thorton. Harris is more valuable than anything we can get for him. Otto is worth nothing. Collins is worth nothing. White is worth nothing. Scaife would be the one to trade, and we have to franchise him again to do that. Ford is our best pass rusher. It's an area of weakness, so we can't trade him. Someone would have to overpay us for him, and that's not realistic.

It'd be nice if we could get something for these guys but we waited too long. We shoulda traded Scaife and Lendale during the offseason when they had some value cause at this point they have none.

I'd like to see us move KFC and Thornton too but it'd be a hard sell in getting some desperate team to bite on those deals.

I wanna keep Harris because he's proven that he's as versatile an OL as we've ever had. Let Amano walk and give Harris his starting spot. Mawae has another couple good years left in him. I like Jacob Ford but I'd be ok if we did manage to trade him away.

Here's the thing with trying to trade LenDale or Bo or even KVB. All are going to be free agents in March, and in order to trade them we'd first need to re-sign them. Right now trying to trade them would be the same as the Falcons trying to trade Mike Vick right before releasing him. It just won't work out trying with those guys. teams know that they'll be available soon enough, and will wait for them. We're better off trying to move Thorton and those names I listed, because they still have some gas in the tank, and it would be a year away before anyone could pursue them.

Yeah but if there is no new CBA, then Bo, Lendale and Tulloch will become RFA which works in our favor in these cases.

I get your point and totally agree that we should get something for these guys instead of just letting them walk and getting nothing.

Scaife and White should be restricted free agents. We should tender them and see if anyone bites.

Honestly though, I could see the FO wanting to keep both players.
