Will the media turn on Peyton Manning the way they have turned on Tiger?

The story has more legs because Tiger is a black man married to the (alleged) ultimate in beauty, a blond white woman. How dare he! I say eff both of them!

It's a black MEN thing. Bobby Brown was painted as the guy that beat the beloved Whitney Houston. (and white folks loved some Whitney) Then it turns out in the end that Whitney was actually the worse of the 2.
Chris Brown's career was killed by the media- and I'm not saying it shouldn't have been, but how many country music singers get in trouble for domestic abuse? How many rock stars?... It's pretty common practice, but when the kid that all the white girls have crushes on does it, it's a whole new thing.

Disclaimer: I'm white. Thought I should include this...

And for the record, Peyton cheats on his wife, also.

I'd be shocked if it was with other women.

I never looked at it like that.

Should we praise or forgive our culture for producing someone who really didn't take that angle into consideration. In fact, it never even dawned on me.

    ... with boys?!

I've always disliked the fact that the media likes to portray people as being perfect then gets uphauled when someone isn't. No one is perfect. IMO, people like Peyton Manning, Tim Tebow, and others have been portrayed this way. People who can do no wrong, you know?

Alex Rodriguez was portrayed this way for many years up until recently. Ironically, he wins a world series and has the best year of his career.

This may be going off on a tangent, but a scandal for a celebrity is probably the best thing that could happen to you. I remember a while back, you couldn't turn on the TV without seeing Britney spears tabloid stories. I thought, man, people must really hate Britney, then you go online, and it seems like the scandals made people like her even more. I looked up most viewed youtube videos of all time and Britney is right up there with them. I have to think, that without a constant media blitz, would some of these celebrities weather the test of time? Or would they have become distant memories only to make room for the next flavor of the month?

Getting back to Tiger, if Tiger comes back from his ACL surgery and wins all the majors, all the tournaments, would the media have even pursued this? I'm sure they knew it was going on. Women always know whats going on. I'm sure Elin knew about this for quite sometime. You gotta be sly to get 12-13 girls and not let any of them know about each other. That's just not how it goes.

I honestly don't see this as a "black man" bias... at all. The Tiger story is so huge because Tiger is one of the biggest (arguably THE biggest) sports figures out there. The Chris Brown thing got so much attention because BOTH he and Rihanna are huge pop stars. Like they say, the bigger they are... the harder they fall.

If Tom Brady had been involved in the exact same situation as Tiger (i.e. the suspicious wreck and aftermath... revelations of a mistress... revelations of even more mistresses... then he essentially goes into hiding only releasing the occasional statement through his web site) then I think just as big of a deal would've been made of it. Like TJ said earlier in the thread, we are a society that revels in watching celebrities crash and burn. Black, white... it doesn't matter. If you're a huge star and commit a major blunder people are going to be all over it.

You are right, it is not a black man bias at all. It is a rich and famous athlete bias. If anything, as a minority in this country, especially a famous minority, you are protected by a sinister double standard. When the media gets light of a Tiger Woods scandal or a Kobe Bryant scandal, it is automatically perceived as racially motivated by the "white press" The defenders of this (NAACP, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc.) seem to feed the public this crap and in large it is bought, the "offenders" are forgiven and they go on as if nothing happened. I myself am not a racist and anyone that disagrees with me would probably try and play that card, but go ahead. If it makes you feel that you have accomplished something to push your own agenda, kudos to you.

But enough of the rant. It is BS that has even got this far and yes, every rich and famous athlete is subject to this sort of scrutiny including Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.
