I'll admit I only casually followed the Oilers back in the day - the 80s and 90s. I'm old enough to have seen Earl Campbell play, but I was largely a casual fan, simply of the game of football. My cousin in Chattanooga, who was like an older brother to me, got me to follow the Oilers at different times, the longest of the old era being the run-and-shoot days. He was a QB prospect who Johnny Majors said wasn't good enough to be a QB in college and would have to convert to WR (which he should have done). Instead, he went to a smaller school where he could be a QB.

Once the move to Tennessee was announced, it was on. I've been a consistent fan of the Oilers/Titans since 1997/1998. I knew that McNair and George would be worth following for years to come. Back then, Fisher amused the crap out of me. I've always maintained he's the one NFL coach who looks like a NASCAR driver. The Titans made me appreciate smothering defenses and unstoppable running attacks. I've been a consistent fan going on twelve years now.

When I was a kid, it was easy, not having an NFL team in my hometown, much less state, to flop around (Dolphins and Bengals a couple of seasons each, for instance, Niners, Packers, Bears in 85), but ever since Tennessee had a team, even in transition, I've been on lock. Made me understand what fandom truly was. There's no chance I'll ever be a fan of another NFL team, or any team as much as I am the Tennessee Titans at present.

So, I can't claim to be an old Oiler fan, but my cousin made me appreciate watching them during the periods I did. It was ironic when that franchise became my team, I thought. Thanks to him, I was glad it was the Oilers. He's more of a Falcon fan now, but he passed the love of the franchise onto me.

    That's how I got here.

I just have pride in the state, I didn't really care who won in the NFL until the Titans came to town. Same with the Preds..although they are a more casual thing for me :p

Yeah GLinks, I can remember the day we drafted Steve and thinking, who? And the more and more film that was shown on him had me saying, this is our QB.

And the day we drafted Eddie, almost makes me cry a little. I remember thinking there's no way this guy falls to us and he did and I was like Hells Yeah!!!

I knew that we were in for some great football. Of course, we didn't ever get the rings that we deserve but that's why I'm all the more hopeful for our future.

We are due, and we are very deserving. I mean, the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have both won the big game. We are due.

Are we the part of the population that stays married and end up losers?

When we could trade up for a hottie and hang with the front runners?

    Loyalty.

I don't know if it's good or bad. But I like it. I wonder though if people who are loyal are incapable of making important change in life. Like getting the Lions out of the Thanksgiving game. Or wanting the forward pass. Or Night games.

Tiger dumps his long time and friend and Caddie and becomes the greatest golfer of all time with his new caddie.

    Don't know.

Maybe we have not been tempted by the good life yet. Maybe we are under the delusion that rooting for the Titans is the good life.

Longtime Oilers fan since like 1980 when I was kid growing up in Florida.

Why am I loyal. It feels right for me.

Titans became important to me when they moved from Houston to Tennessee commuting to Memphis in the late 90's. I was still a young kid, and having the Titans in your backyard (I once lived in Memphis) was pretty cool. I was a football fan back then, but nothing like I became when I could say my area was home to an NFL team. Once the Oilers were a Tennessee team, I took to them way more than I ever would for them being a Houston franchise. I did have family and stuff in the Houston area, but I didn't come from there, and they certainly weren't a team to wear strong unless you had to (older fans that know who Sid Gillman is). So once they were the Tennessee Titans I really appreciated the team. The Titans also gave me and Papa Dukes (Dad) another thing in common, which makes it more special representing this team. Then of course the Music City Miracle was cool, and the Super Bowl experience was fun, making this team more popular on a national level. Then not long after the 2001 season concluded my Dad died, and I was living far from my favorite team (now in Connecticut). So for me I guess you could say the Titans give me a kind of happiness. Me and Dad would always talk Titans football, and with no Dad around the Titans somewhat filled the void. I like the Titans because they remind me of my Dad, and usually are a team you can be proud of. It was only a few seasons we had them to share together, but I remember him when I see the Columbia blue and navy blue along with the fireball on the helmet. Now I am certain to attend as many games as I can, always at least one a year. Not too often they play around the CT area. But I log the hours to travel and see them. Can't wait to take my son along for the fun when he's older, I think 14 months old is a little early.

    And to Big Time Titan,
The only reason I don't already have the Titans tat your considering is because of Jeff Fisher. He is too irritating to have to be reminded of all day every time you look at your tattoo.

Back in 99 was when i joined a pop Warner team that was called the Compton Titans. Used to be the Oilers but retired the name after a certain nfl team also did so. Our first year as titans we went all the way to the Super Bowl and lost. Just like a certain nfl team did. So after that i felt there was a sort of bond that developed that made me feel like i was part of the team. Oh and in case anyone was wondering. Our Rivals were the Carson Colts...............Yea eerie isn't it. Forever and always a Fan.

I grew up in Houston, so naturally my family pulled for the Oilers when I was young, so I picked up on it. When they moved to Tennessee, I decided to follow them instead of just forgetting about it and hoping a new team would come. I just couldn't stop caring for the players I grew up pulling for.

So after they moved to Tennessee, I was lucky enough to move to Georgia, which made it easier to see the games. My brother decided to pull for the Texans when they came, so it's now a pretty heated rivalry between the two of us. Also, it doesn't hurt that I'm a Longhorns fan as well, so when Vince/Michael/Hall/Bo came to the Titans, it just made it that much better. But I'm definitely a Titans fan first, and a Longhorns fan second. I pull for the team not the player.
