Theres nothing genius about going for 4th and 2 on your own 28 regardless if it works or not.

I can put my entire checking account balance in the middle of a black jack table and bet it all on one hand. Just because I'm dealt blackjack doesnt make me a genius. If I lose, its certainly not a genius move.

You guys don't get it. 2:15 on the clock, peyton manning has 2 timeouts. I don't care if you down the ball on 1 yard line the colts score 90% of the time. Going for it on 4th down was the right call, and the first down was made. Faulk secured the ball exactly on the first down marker and was forced back by a defender. Yes, he bobbled. Refs were stupid. He bobbled the ball for a split second and secured it right before the defender hit him. What do the refs expect? He's going to bobble the ball the whole time he's getting clobbered by a defender? The game was really lost by Bellichick using two timeouts when he should have used one, because had he been able to challenge that play, we'd still be laughing at the colts for allowing them to convert a 4th and 2 with the game on the line.

He could or he couldn't, but giving the ball to the colts definitely gave them the momentum.

Lets say the Pats kick it on 4th an 2, Peyton does score the td and theres time left. Whos to say the pats dont march down the field real quick and kick a FG. That's not out the realm of possibility. That sounds like best plan to me, incase he did march 70 yards down the field.

The best part of it all was that look on Bellicheats face when it didn't work. He looked like he just walked in his house and found 5 guys doing nasty things to his wife and her giving the thumbs up :)

"most coaches would wake up tomorrow without a job after something like that."

Fifteen years of calling plays makes coaches very tired and affects their cognitive functions-if you get my drift. ;)

Exactly. I can't believe nobody else is talking about this. It was quite obvious he easily had the first down by at least a foot. He bobbled the ball for a fraction of a second and then gained complete control at least a foot to two feet past the 30.

The bobble changes everything about the catch. Since he bobbles it, and he's coming down, the catch isn't completed until he maintains possesion of the ball as he goes to the ground, which was clearly before the first down marker. I'm not sure a second foot ever came down after the bobble. Regardless, he'd have been able to challenge the play of his timeout management hadn't been so abysmal.

Going for it was stupid. Manning had thrown 2 picks and the ball had been slipping out of his hands the whole night. Punting the ball nearly kills the run game and it makes the colts very one dimensional with Wayne and Clark as the only two receivers that had been catching the ball consistently.

It was arrogant and they payed for it.

I don't think you can say its "clearly". If you see the angle from the middle of the field which i've been looking for on youtube but saw on tv you can clearly see where had gained full possession of the ball after the initial bobble and was on or just past the 30.

Doesn't change the fact that it was an idiotic call but i'm just saying I'm pretty sure it was a first down.

Forget about whether or not they secured the ball for the 1st down. Usually this works in the Patriots favor. Tom and Bill didn't win their first Super Bowl by playing it safe. They beat those Rams being aggressive inside 2:00. I like the call. Not really do I like it but considering the Pats defense was crap at the end of that game.. It's one game in November for a team that will finish off strong anyways. I mean people, it's Tom Brady & Co. going for it with minimal yardage. They must have been shocked they failed there. I was too. I certainly thought the Colts were done, and the Pats would connect on that play. Owell I guess. I will say though; any other team than the Colts, Patriots, or Saints that went for it on that play, then I'd really question the decision. But those 3 teams would usually get that play.

Look at who the 2 QBs are. You had a coach who was more confident that his guy(An all time great) could get his team 2 yards than he was in his defense stopping the other QB from getting 70.

Ted Bruschi was just on espn complaining that the defense should have had the opportunity to stop manning but the coach just didn't have that confidence.

By going for it he was paying homage to peyton manning's greatness.
