I see your point but I was under the assumption we were talking about how good the QBs around the league are right now, not over the span of their entire careers. Sure I'd rank the circa-2004 Delhomme over VY but Jake certainly isn't the same guy today he was 5 years ago. If we're ranking QBs by current skill level I don't see how Delhomme gets put ahead of Young.

Sorry, but the logic goes in both directions.

    - SF probably has better receivers, or at least TE, but it is not absolutely clear cut.
    - Titans have a better OL
    - Titans have a better Runningback (as good as Gore is, CJ is better but OL also helps)

Basically right now I'd say they are on the same *tier* but I personally put Alex higher just because I'm more of a 49er fan than Titan fan and I like what I've seen from him. Although he's definitely struggled against the Titans and soso against the Bears. Just like all the Titans fans will put VY over Alex because he's on their team. Homerism bias automatically counts for 3-5+ improvement in the rankings.... Just like when everyone was also saying KC was an "above average" QB last year when he was perfectly average.

I think it's hard to argue Vince as a top 10 qb. I think you can argue he's in the top half. But it's irrelevant to me. You either believe with Vince or you don't believe. It was same when he as at Texas. I believe. This is the guy who can take us to the superbowl. He wins football games.

The first test will be when a defense figures out how to stop Johnson and will the short to intermediate passing game hold up and be able to drive the ball.. it could not last season against the Ravens in the playoffs.. co-ordinators now have 2 games on tape so the real test for Vince is coming.. Buffalo has very little run defense so this offense should work this week but soon we will know if Vince has playoff runs in him..

I actually thought SF did a pretty good job on CJ inthe first half. Vince carried the show fairly well during the down time.

VY hasn't carried anything so far. What he ahs done is not lose it for the team. I have a feeling VY will get his chance to prove if he can "carry" the team. Then we will have a better idea on if he sucks or not.

    Soxcat,

In the 5 Titans scoring drives, Vince was 7-8 for 132 yards passing and also had 3 carries for 16 yards. CJ had 14 carries for 77 yards and 2 catches for 22 yards on those drives (and one incomplete pass).

So while Vince didn't carry the team, he and CJ together were both productive and kept a good 49ers defense off balance. The 27 offensive points was the second most offensive points the 49ers have given up all year, and they have held some very good offenses to less than 21 points: Arizona to 16, Indy to 18, and Minnesota to 20.

First of all the offense didn't score 27 points. Finnegan ran an int in for a TD. Hood also intercepted a pass and ran it back to the SF 24 which led up to VY's running TD.

If the D doesn't get those turnovers and we convert to TDs we are in danger of losing the game despite CJ running for 135 yards and 2 TDs. VY ran for a grand total of 14 yards all game.

CJ and the D turnovers played a big part. VY did his job but didn't carry anything.

Oh, ok. I thought the post "How do you rank Vince against the rest of the league QB's? meant how you rank them as QB's period, kind of hard to even really see where Vince is right now when he's only been in for two games and not really tested yet. I'll see if my opinion changes once his cage get's rattled a bit. Then we'll see if the old "deer in the headlights" Vince comes back...which I'm pretty sure he will. I mean, he's only had to pass the ball 37 times in two games and hasn't felt the pressure of things NOT going as scripted. I'm anxious to see how he responds when the going get's tough.
