If Bo has 75 catches, it probably means teams are fine with us throwing it to Bo. Gage and Washington better have 50-60+ catches each. If it's all spread around, that's well and good, CJ improving from 42 to 50+, say.

If by some miracle the Titans retain Scaife, extend him partway through the season, what does that mean for Cook? I guess he does stay at TE since Crumpler is possibly done and we still have to see what we have in Stevens, but I wonder if he could be converted back to WR, especially if Crumpler plays well and the Titans decide to extend him, too.

Crumpler is another reason I wouldn't expect Scaife to reach 75 catches. If he's playing, I don't foresee a worse season than last year, catch-wise, even if his primary role remains blocking.

Sorry but running that wont make him a better TE. It will only make him faster and have longer endurance. Which i nice, but most importantly he needs great hands and great routes to excel. Hopefully we'll see that this yr. Because im sure Cook will be on his:moon2:

I don't see him doing any better than last season.

He is not a jason witten type guy and our offense has more weapons to throw to this year.

No way he can get 80 catches in this offense.

His improvement going back from 06 is not that impressive because he had a horrible season in 06. He was great last year but that was by far his best season and i don't think he can top that.

Glinks well said. We have improved weapons on the outside and a wild card guy in cook. That should take some catches away.

Since we have 2 TEs who can block better than he can and we are a running team scaife won't be on the field enough to get 75-80 catches.

Or Cook gets a few catches but isn't used often because he is a rookie that has to learn the offense.

I'd hold off on saying your boy Stevens is a better blocker considering he's barely played in the NFL.

Scaife's improved every year, and while I don't truly believe his numbers will increase the way I projected in my first post in this thread, I still think he'll end up our leading receiver this season. Our offense scheme won't change drastically and Scaife is the underneath go-to option.

Wycheck never had more than 70 receptions in a season, and that passing offense was even more built around the TE than this offense. So I don't expect Scaife to have much more than he did last year - considering all the players we've added.

Scaife was great at times last year, but totally disappeared in December - a whopping 63 yards. And I don't believe he had a single catch in the 2nd half of the playoff game - after CJ went down that was Scaife's time to keep the chains moving. IMO, that's why he didn't get a long term deal. If he can maintain around 60 receptions, but be more reliable the Titans could make it to the SB... if he can't then I don't see us as a serious playoff threat unless Cook comes on.

Justin Gage is getting 800 - 1,000 yards. Watch Gage be our leading receiver. (I can't believe Justin Gage is our best option):disbelief:disbelief

Scaife is a good player that has consistently improved season to season. I believe that trend will continue. Where is the reason to doubt Scaife?

Jared Cook is not going to replace him as a starter. He's a rookie who has to learn the entire offense. He's gonna get his chances, but its not going to dramatically lower Scaife's gametime. Britt's impact is also likely minimal. Sure Nate Washington may get more looks, but McCareins had plenty of passes thrown his way last season. If anything, I think the new additions will open opportunities for Scaife to make bigger plays.

A 28 year old TE who had significant playing time from day one is not going to improve any as a player.

Scaife had better numbers the last 2 seasons mainly because he got the lions share of TE catches. His first few years other TEs caught a lot of balls.

He doesn't have great down field speed and has a career 9.6 YPC average. The top TEs average about 11 yards a catch.

He is an average player and has done a solid job for us but we have other people who can catch the ball this year and other TEs who can block better.
