Yes. That was totally the point of my post... to try to inform people.

No... someone said it's not cool that I said "he can go to hell" so I explained why he should. Simple as that.

You really jumped the gun on that one. I'm not really sure how it's possible to take what I said out of context, but you managed to do so.

Dude. My point is simple. I think everyone in this thread is aware of Jackson's failings. It's just that we're choosing to show some empathy for a man who just died, a man who despite these failings did more good and provided more joy in his lifetime than almost anyone that I can think of (I think the public's reaction to his death will attest to that).

And I'm not even a fan.

I have no empathy for him but i do have empathy for all those fans who were just kids when thriller came out and are probably hurting now because that was a time that was so important to them.

Aside from the sleeping with boys you have the bogus marriages, fathering children artificially even though he was legally married and his strange way he had towards his children almost like they were pets not his own kids.

I can appreciate your point but at what point is the person so vile and imperfect that it supersedes what he accomplished as an entertainer.

Would you have the same empathy for phil specter if he were to die? He was involved in dozens of hit songs and top rock and pop acts.

You have to understand that MJ was one of the first people, maybe the only person, that the media and pop culture has followed from boyhood (maybe even birth) to being an old, (odd) man. We've seen this whole guys life. This may be the first time this has happened in history. Think about it.

Jackson's life is a pretty tragic one. Forced into show business at the earliest of ages by his parents, it's pretty clear he was deprived of anything even remotely resembling a normal childhood. His fame isolated him at such an early age that it's clear he never developed the ability to relate to others with any level of real intimacy (be it physical or emotional). I don't recall him ever having a girlfriend (other than carefully crafted show business pairings). I think he was an emotionally and sexually retarded individual, still needing intimacy but completely incapable of it. While I don't give him a pass on the things he's done, I view him as sad and misguided rather than malicious.

I'm a vegetable; sitting here in my hot, humid office afterr a mind numbing day. If you asked me my address... it would take me a second to come up with it. I did my best to explain my reasoning... hopefully it's coherent, if it isn't... cut me some slack
