Young Says He's Ready to Return as Starter for Titans

SUMMARY: Vince Young isn't saying "play me or trade me" but comments made yesterday indicate the former Rookie of the Year does not plan on settling for a backup role. "I definitely want to get back out there playing ball and picking up where I left off, winning games and having a good time with my teammates and with the fans," Young said. "At the same time, if them guys don't want me to be in there, it's time for me to make a career change for myself. Because the fact is I'm ready to play ball. If they're not ready for me to play ball, then somebody is." Titans coach Jeff Fisher has already said that Young would have to unseat Collins as the starter. "I'm still focused, staying focused," Young said. "I got a lot of people that look up to me. I got a lot of fans that love me and want to see me back out on the football field."

Maybe I am an underdog kinda guy, but I am rooting for VY. I dont know if he can turn into the superstar we all hoped for, but there is still that possibility. Whatever helps us win a playoff game or two....be it Kerry or VY.

Fans ride his arse for sitting away from his teammates and appearing uninterested in the game and then ride his arse for saying he wants to be the Titans #1 QB again.

The guy got a lot of rope because he could do no wrong his rookie season despite doing A LOT wrong and now he's taking a lot of undue criticism for basically showing a little competitive spirit.

Listen to the entire interview. Tell me that it is wrong for Young to want his job back or want to move on if he doesn't. The only thing I would have liked to hear him say is "I know it won't be handed to me and I need to earn it on the field".

I, for one, want to see Young tell the media every day that he wants his job back. I hope he pushes Collins hard and actually plays well enough to return as the starter. That'll mean he's potentially going to do what we thought he could when he was drafted.

As I said back in February, we need Young to create a QB controversy by outplaying Collins ON THE FIELD.

Just let your play do the talking. Show progression and everyone would shut up and get off your back. Keep talking without showing progress and you're just another spoiled underachiever.

Everything TitanJeff said is spot-on, as usual.

I'll just add that everyone who is discussing trading Vince needs to stop right now. It will be laughable if/when Vince starts demanding a trade. There is no chance in hell that a trade will happen. There's no team in the league who would trade anything (not even a 7th round pick) for an unproven QB due to earn $14 million next season. If Vince is on another team next season (and I think he will be), it's because the Titans released him. HE HAS NO TRADE VALUE WHATSOEVER.

    $14.21 million.

Maybe the source is wrong or I'm interpreting the numbers wrong (is this a case of actual salary vs. cap hit?). If so, please let me know.

Either way, we all agree that it's way more money than he's worth.
