I realized our Safeties are going to need to have an even bigger impact this season, being Pro Bowlers wont be enough. Losing Haynesworth was a big loss, not so bad being he didn't play much on 3rd downs but still was a force. Now with his giant frame out of town our Middle linebackers will be getting blocked a lot more. Stephen Tulloch isn't big at all and will probably get knocked around leaving the middle open for running-backs. The game plan for opposing teams use to be 'run away from 92', now that is not the case. I know Tennessee of all teams can make his absence forgotten with Griffin & Hope filling the gaps, but a 5'11" MLB just doesn't sit well with me when the middle will be an option now. Will Bulluck & Thornton now squeeze the middle more, creating open lanes outside? Or will Griffin & Hope play closer to the line of scrimmage waiting to be burned over the top. I don't feel good about having our depth at MLB being Ryan Fowler & Colin Allred either.

You are right. His loss hurts a lot. We don't have a guy to draw the double and triple teams. Opposing OLine probably will get to the second level a lot more, and put bodies on our LBs. But Jason Jones looks promising, and Sen'Derrick Marks could be the next Haynesworth who knows. We have a great dline coach and he always gets his players to play better.

I don't worry about Tulloch stuffing the run. He has a good toughness about him, and he loves to stick a RB. I do worry about him getting abused by TE's over the middle because he's so short, but I don't think Tulloch will let us down in run stopping. If he does, Fowler's still on the roster.

The key to our defense will be our offense this year. I love defense, but I have to admit we have been a little out of balance. A big run stopping DT is the 2nd best way to stop the run. The best way is to convert 3rd downs on offense and give your defense nice long drives to rest up.

CJ is no longer a rookie learning the system. Lendale is in a contract year with a talented rookie possibly on his heels. Scaife is wanting to prove his long-term value. We took a big, physical WR in the 1st round, and and even bigger, faster TE in the 3rd. Collins actually has the starting job from day 1 of camp, with 2 shiny new WRs to play with. We're done with the transition from Chow to Dinger. It's time for the offense to take some pressure off Bulluck & Co.

I don't think you can say losing one of the best defensive players won't affect us. I think we'll find ways to compensate....but it will be hard to be as effective a D as we were last year

Hopefully, the arguments about being more balanced as a team will be somewhat accurate. It will be interesting to see how we adjust, and what our defense really looks like as the season starts.
