I'm not sure it's a slam dunk Kevin Smith could outproduce LenDale given equal or similar carries.

I didn't say it was likely, I said it was possible.

White led our team in TDs. I value White's TDs over Scaife's yards. Scaife had two TDs. White had 15. Oh wait...White had more yards and TDs than Scaife. Yes, he had more touches. I guess they trusted him to get something accomplished.

I'm sure they don't like the tender. All the more reason to re-sign or trade the player. Again, I didn't say the franchise tag was the way to go. It's an option. Again, I advocate the Titans drafting a RB most every year, even in the first few rounds, but let'
s say the Titans did draft some like a Rashad Jennings. Is that a guarantee they would let White go after this season? No. Why?

Well, Chris Henry could be gone by then. The new rookie could suck, and would of course still be under a multi-year contract, so there still wouldn't be a lot of cap space tied up in the position. Would it be reasonable for the Titans to spend $7, $8, $9M on the RB corps? You bet. Current cost? I don't know, but Johnson, White, Henry, Ganther and Little's cap hits all probably amounted to $4M together, SBs included. White is the veteran of the bunch. It's not a crazy thing to do at all. Plus, he has another season like last, he will have some value. I'd offer him a Finnegan, so that if we won a championship in the next year or two, we could trade him for higher value, but make the deal have some production and workout/weight clauses. Finally, structure it so it's somewhat frontloaded and he can be cut if need be.

Finally, let's not think that after the Ravens playoff game, teams won't be keying in on Chris Johnson more often, even trying to take him out of the game altogether. We don't need to get stuck in a Chris Brown situation all over again. We're still only two injuries away from Chris Henry. There've been those fluke times where the one and two guys go down (RB, QB come to mind) in the same game, sometimes the same series.

Because you're making the assumption that you can. C'mon, you know it's not that easy. You can get the yards, but not the touchdowns. Even at point blank range, most RBs aren't as efficient as White is on the goalline. And you forget that the Lions don't have the line the Titans have, so White's feet, vision, instincts and body type are more valued.

Guys who get 15 TDs, even in short-yardage/goalline carries, don't just grow on trees, for any team, in any system. Someone still has to take advantage of the opportunities created, and be able to make a few of his own.

Don't get me wrong. I'd take a RB this year, sometime on day two, but I wouldn't think they automatically take over for LenDale. You might hope, but that'd be the best you could do.

Anyway, a RB who has produced well is more valuable than a mid-round guesstimate. It's just the devil you know. The Lions could draft Chris Wells or Donald Brown, say, with pick #20 (or #33), but would that guarantee either could ouproduce LenDale, or that that would be smarter than giving #33 for LW, Gage and Ball?

    Nope.

They need more than one guy at receiver. They unloaded a bit.

    Question...

Last time I checked, 4.47 for a 250lbs is not decent, it's EXCELLENT. And unlike all this talk of Ayers having a great combine workout, Barwin did. Except for bench (which he still bested Ayers at weighing 20 lbs less), he was top 1 or 2 in virtually every drill. Not only top 1 or 2, but had excellent times. Aren't many 250lbs with a 40+" vertical, sub 7 cone, 4.6 40, and closing in on 11' broad jump. The guy is HIGHLY athletic and produced on the field at DE in his first season at DE. Ayers got his first start at DE after playing it for years. Which guy has more upside?

Who would you rather draft at the same pick...Ayers or Barwin...and why?

    Well...

I think you'd be surprised at how many of those TD's he didn't have to do anything for. How many of his 15 TD's were made because it was him running the rock...and no one else would have scored? If the answer's not 10+ of those, then he's not the super TD back we like to think he is.

I think there are quite a few guys in this draft who can get it done!

Well, no matter where a player is drafted you need to have hope. Any player...even guys IN the NFL can bust. I think there are 3rd rnd RB's who can come in and not lose us a beat. They might not be the same player nor have the same big back value, but they might improve other areas...speed and elusiveness for instance.

I can't guarantee ANY player in the draft will be a good starter nor in the Hall of Fame. However, each player's stock is based on likeliness to succeed (or fail) with the variables being upside, downside, and consistency. I think we saw White's upside and his downside. Moreno or Wells could be significantly better...but they COULD bust.

Again, I wouldn't be signing back ups to 4+mil/yr contracts. In the scheme of things, you need to improve your starters before you can spend that kind of cap on a backup player.

Really? Did the goal line move to LenDale White? Let me review the footage where Chris Johnson is Fred Flintstoning the earth unbeknownst to everybody.

"The earth doesn't revolve around the sun. Chris Johnson rolls it around like a lumberjack on a log, or a circus bear on a ball. It's why we have seasons."

Again, San Diego just franchised Darren Sproles at $6.62M this year. What would you call that?

    Lol...

Stupidity? No, it's different when you think your STARTER is just about done and your backup looks like the GUY! We don't have that sitaution. Our starter BECAME our backup and we drafted a RB in rnd 1 after starting White. Doesn't sound like they want to spend starter money to keep a guy they didn't want to keep as a starter.

I would NOT have tagged Sproles. He's a good player but he's not THAT good!

    Yes, stupidity. And desparation.

They are different situations, but that's not the point so much. LW produced more points than LT or Sproles separately but makes not even a tenth of what they make. As Fisher stated (ha-ha: believing Fisher-speak), it doesn't matter who is "the starter." Both play a role and will get the appropriate carries. Can the Titans afford to pay LW $4M while CJ makes $2M just to hang on to him while another RB is developed? Sure. There's no reason to get offended (not saying you are, just saying the thought itself isn't criminal) about giving LW a short term pay day that's higher than our younger featured back.

I wouldn't have tagged Sproles either, and the Chargers are probably unhappy about having had to stretch themselves to cover the RB position, without any guarantee of actually improving at the position, but just to maintain the status quo. LT and Sproles are probably giving the Chargers a big :makefun2: this offseason. I wouldn't be surprised if they threw a party in honor of the occasion.
