Johnson to Run Away from Fast Food

    I still stand by my assertion that a steak, potato and green vegetable with table rolls is healthier than anything at a fast food restaurant. Like the type of fair one might find at Logan's...

    Also, you may think that all beef is just beef, but McDonald's food is excruciatingly unhealthy. I have a friend who some of the tailgaters here have met as I have brought him with me to games/tailgates... He's 31 years old... eats McDonalds ALL THE TIME ... meals, snacks... breakfast... I mean it's a damn $50+ a week habit with this guy... he just had a stroke... a stroke! I mean, he's 31! Who has a stroke at 31?

    Honestly, not that uncommon. And stroke's don't discriminate among fast food eaters or non-fast food eaters. Let's just say I know stroke victims in their early 30s who were in prime health.

    my brother in law had a major stroke back in august. he was 28 years old. he was in the best health you could be in. cooked dinner everynight, nothing really greasy, never ate at fast food resturants, worked out four times a week, very demanding job. alot of other things can make you have a stroke. eating fast food, from my research isnt really one of them. sorry, didnt mean to get off topic!

    12 oz sirloin steak(leanest steak on menu)....975 calories...65 gms fat

    Baked potato with sour cream.....400 calories....5 gms fat

    2 rolls no butter added.............450 calories 22 gm fat

    Steamed vegetables .............80 calories 1 gm fat

    Totals......1905 calories..93 gms fat


    Dinner at Wendy's

    1 wendy's single w everything....500 calories...25 gms fat

    1 small chili...............187 calories....6 gms fat

    Ceasar side salad............260 calories....19 gms fat

    1 servings fat free french dressing 70 calories 0 fat..

    Totals....................1017 calories...50 gms fat


    The wendy's meal has more B vitamins, vitamin A and fiber. The steak dinner has more protein and iron.


    So what is more healthy? Note that the wendy's salad gets most of it's fat from the croutons which are served separately and i would never eat.

    It's the regularity of eating out that's bad. I love eating out, but I also feel the need to cook simpler, smaller, healthy foods to balance it out. When you eat in a restaurant you don't control how much butter, oil, and salt go into your foods. Most restaurant foods taste so good because they have more of those things than we naturally cook with. Ruth's Chris serves your steak in a pool of sizzling butter!

    it seems in reading though, that the order from wendys is everything small and health. a single burger is no where near the size of a 12oz steak.
    same with the small chili vs the baked potato. why not have fries vs potato?
    two rolls vs a salad???
    i like the effort of the research though...and it has since made me hungry...nice job!

    Sorry about your friend but i'm not going to denigrate a business that employs 400,000 full time employees without some real evidence.

    Mcdonalds does not raise their own beef they buy it like every other restaurant chain does. And like any restaurant the beef is USDA inspected and approved.

    that's my buddy in the background in the blue sweatshirt in case anyone was curious as to which friend I was referring to.

    Fat and calorie content aren't really where it's at in my opinion. Athletes need so much fuel to replace what they burn. What I'm trying to convey is that there is loads of extra chemical crap in a typical fast food meal that is not present in a fresh prepared meal.

    Has Michael Moore not taught us anything?

    Not 2 rolls vs a salad the steamed vegetables vs a salad. Nobody eats at a place like that and eats only one roll. They give you the rolls before anything else. Most people put butter on those as well but i didn't count for that.

    The size comparison is fair enough but even if i jack up the single to a triple(Same amount of meat 12oz) which adds 460 calories which is the same amount of meat, 12 oz there is still a 400 calorie difference.

    I used wendy's because you have a choice in your side and for just a dollar you can add a side salad, baked potato, 8 oz chili etc.

    Remember sec said that his model meal was better than ANYTHING at a fast food place.


    FYI a mcdonalds meal with double quarter pounder w cheese, large fries, side salad w dressing is 1380 calories with 75 grams of fat.
