then why wasn't he an OLB in college? why didn't he ever produce? where was he his first four years?

and i like i said, he's not going to play linebacker in THIS defense. surely it won't be in the middle, he just doesn't fit there. he won't supplant thornton as our SLB and he doesn't have the athleticism to play WLB.

he's either a rush linebacker in a 3-4 or an inside linebacker in a 3-4. we don't play a 3-4. hence, he does not fit in our defense.

Did you even bother to watch the video? Obviously not. It'll answer your questions. No further comment is needed.......Watch the video and listen to the commentary.

The "experts" have stated over and over he's a 3 down backer. Why won't you accept it?

I hope it does. I still like Matthews and think the Titans are kind of serious about him if he's there at 30. I don't know about whether he fits the scheme or not, but if he could play all three positions, I mean, that's the kind of guy I like to have one of, if he's got a future as a starter. Matthews, Marcus Freeman, fit that mold, IMO. And where they will fit in, well, I would presume we wouldn't have one of Bulluck, Tulloch or Thornton starting at that point in time.

Lastly, if Bulluck is gone, then I think there's some question as to who plays where next. As far as I'm concerned, Thornton's probably best-suited to take Bulluck's spot, and then Tully is for Thornton's. I think in particular the LB selected needs to be able to play Sam or Mike. I think with Thornton and Keglar, Will isn't as big an issue. Of course, you never want to turn down an elite Will backer, either.

I think he could play the SAM spot for us. Almost identical numbers to david thornton based on nfl draft scout. Matthews ran a sub 7 second cone and had the 4th fastest 40 time among all linebackers at the combine 4.67.

Based on composite times from nfl draft scout

    Mathews
    40 4.62
    shuttle 4.18
    Cone 6.90
    10 yard dash 1.49

    Thornton
    40 4.62
    shuttle 4.09
    cone 6.93
    10 ys dash 1.59

So we know from these numbers he has comparable speed and quickness to thornton.

His outstanding 10 yard time plus his play for usc suggests he would be a dominant blitzer and could help out as a passing down DE.

It's a reach i know but not out of question he could be groomed to play inside he is big enough. He could also play like a stand up end in some special packages.

An athletic versatile player which is what we like and i'm sure cecil can use him.

On the negative side are the roids and i think there are roid issues with the USC linebackers. :grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr: on a bull?

David Thornton was a 4th round pick with those numbers and produced a lot more in college(in three years) than Matthews ever dreamed of(in five years). somehow Matthews is considered the third best OLB?

i guess that's what happens when your dad is a hall of famer and you go to USC.
